In this video I have a look at a customer’s 2013 Chevrolet Silverado with an engine light on for a small EVAP leak. We get to bust out the new Harbor Freight Icon smoke machine and see if there really is a leak. Low and behold there is! Let’s have a look.
-Enjoy!

  1. I failed inspection on my 2010 Chevy Silverado (5.3L engine) for "Evaporator Vent Solenoid Circuit Status Incomplete". The Evaporator Vent Solenoid Status = Venting (never changes). I have tried the "Drive Cycle" procedure for at least 50 miles… but no change. No MIL codes. The solenoid works fine when I apply 12V (can hear it clicking, and I cannot blow air through it when "closed"). I don't have a scan tool. But if I had a wiring problem to the solenoid… wouldn't I get a MIL code?

  2. Wanna know something crazy, I started at a new shop and literally TODAY I saw this repair kit in the back of the shop and I have never seen one in my life and no idea what it was. What are the ODDS that of all the videos that I watch today I see you use it.

  3. Whenever I watch your videos, which is most everyday, I marvel at all of the various tools that you possess! You certainly need each one of them to assist your diagnosis, but people do not consider the amount of moohlah that you have invested in all of these when they ask, why is it so expensive to fix?
Good job Eric O, I really enjoy your videos each and every one!😅

  4. Eric I love your show. I have been a tech for over 62 years and still work 3 days a week. I pick up tips and knowledge from you every day. I live in northern Ohio so I know what you deal with. Keep it up! I can't wait to see your next episode!

  5. I dont know if youll read this. But i have a 07 chevy new body has the Evap code and recently i noticed something. I was going to get gas and when i went to take the cap off it sucked in air into the tank. i started pumping gas and it kept on cutting the nozzle off. Then i took it to my works office and checked if was going to suck air and this time it did and heard popping i closed it back immediately and sent under the truck and saw my gas tank sucked itself in, after i removed the gas cap again the tank went back to normal. i might change this part to see if it will fix it.

  6. So, I have a 2011 suburban that’s thrown the Evap code for quite some time. I have exhausted all of the suggestions/possibilities outside of the smoke test. How much should I be looking to pay for the test and repair? I am aware that depending on where the leak is coming from can determine how much the repair is. Just looking for a ballpark number.

  7. “Handy as a two pocket shirt.” => Eric must have some Southern in him with all his great sayings.
Hope that Eric sends General Motors a fruit cake at Christmas since he makes such a living wage off their products.

  8. How much do you charge to find a evap leak? My money light is on my 06 jeep liberty an the code says very small leak an I changed the gas cap and it still says it….

  9. I took my truck to a shop who smoke tested it and said they couldn't find any smoke. Unsure what to do now as the light came back immediately. Find another mechanic and share your video or should I just start replacing parts?
