In this video I have a look at a ladies 2019 Kia Optima that came in with the engine light on and a code for a very small EVAP leak (P0456) A quick check with the smoke machine indicated that there was no leak. Or so I thought…
-Enjoy!

Best bubble show on the tubes!!
Put some dey in from the ac and use uv to find the leak
Great vid! What is a safe pressure to test a evap system? I’ve seen some with a 1psi max cap on the port.
Thanks!
This ladies and gentlemen is a man that is burnt out. Stop making videos Eric O!!
I'm not a pro and I do have all the tools needed, but I find diagnosing the EVAP system a most frustrating and time consuming effort . And this issue always occurs just when either my family or I need to get an emissions inspection. Believe me I don't think I could mentally handle being exposed to numerous EVAP issues to a degree where I could say I have deep experience. Hats off to you!!! Thanks for a great tip on Subzero , appears to be much better than my homemade version.
Any part used in an aircraft has to be tested and approved by the FAA. Aircraft splices have to meet several requirements for resistance to chemical attack and must maintain their integrity even at temperatures as low as -65 degrees. The aircraft splices work on the same principle as the ones Eric used. The difference is in the heat-shrinkable sleeve, which is made of a special thermoplastic epoxy.
You could certainly use aircraft-grade spices in an automobile, but that could get expensive as they cost over $15 each.
"Don't pee into the wind." Sound advice.
Thank you for your expertise once again at lesson learned
I have learned so much from this channel, I will soon be taking my exam for "Certified YouTube Mechanic" – thanks Eric. The utility of the smoke machine seems to really vary with the year , make, and model of the car I suspect. For example, it's proven invaluable to me for working on my 1982 Corvette which runs more on vacuum than gasoline! Use of vacuum hoses in that era is measured in yards not feet or inches! Thanks again for sharing so much with all of us. My best to you and of course Mrs. O.
Eric what is that u use to listen for leak (ultrasonic leak detector). Can you provide link to amazon. Thnx in advance
Turd in a punch bowl. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have no intention to start fixing any evap system, but I'm armed to start if I ever change my mind. LOL. I should get a smoke maker just in case. LOL
As a Philadelphian, thank you for the proper use of the word wooder.
Diagnosis is on point as usual, so is the humor.
15:07 I was thinking that soapy water is more like watery soap. Looked more like snot, but I didn't know products like these were actually made. I just always used soap and water, but that stuff does look more effective.
First, the headphones, then the rhythmic cycle?
Soapy water? Ok, Chris! 😊
Now I have seen it all A WHOOOSH detector.. Who said it isn't rocket appliances…
and new tires?
Was anyone else staring at the rear tire wanting to say hey lady need a new tire😂😂.
Good to hear you back as your happy self Mr O. I was becoming concerned about the state of your mental health after watching a few of your more recent videos. Keep on smiling 😉
If you have bad hearing, instead of smoke could you just use fart in a can? The leak should become obvious, and you could blame the wife if she comes out.
I was in stitches when you put the headphones on the camera mic…thanks for the chuckle Eric! Your channel is AWESOME!
I work for HF and they don't give me anything for free
Great diagnosis!
LOL the DJ jam!!
Sell her some tires, while your at it.
Might I suggest that she gets a quote on new tires as well? Love the channel, keep doing what you're doing.
Another great diagnosis Eric. Saves you from the 'ol 'Assume'.. I'm sure you'll get the job…!!
Love big blue. I'm an HVAC technician and it's a go to. 😂
It always amazes me that people drive around with completely bald tires, especially in snow and ice country! Absolutely stupid!
