I know mid production they made changes in the motor.
plz say the measurements in mm metric too for the younger generation of Europen tho don't know inc 😅
Love the sweet chickens at the end.
Hi from London UK. I love your 'wrenching' man. You persevere & don't like to be beaten. Watching you struggle with that transmission & win was great !
compression ratio was probably very high as well, could maybe have milled the piston flat on the top or at least gone down that 10 thous on it and I bet it would run fine for a quite a while.
I had the exact same experience with my lawnmower. But i was an adult!
Good job on that one!
It's always fascinating to me how many people do NOT know the difference between "lose" or "losing" vs. "loose" or "loosing". Just read the comments in this video alone – hilarious!
great video to see thanks take care
Why just clearance the piston where the valve is touching. You will loose a lot of compression by adding a gasket and add potential for leak.
"You guys see anything?" I was looking, I swear… 😉
Love the way you suss problems out Mustie. ðŸ‘
I am 80 old, always been a mechanic, which you are top of the line, NOT A PARTS CHANGER, I am getting to old to do alot and I love watching you do it for me–LOL. A mechanic knows there is a problem and without experience or details he is fore known that he will fix it somehow. By the Grace of God this is his gift and he will perform it. Thanks for all the great videos.
This was a time when motercycles Were cheap and fun and durable
2 bace gaskets cheating fix it right
Oh okay there space man
A tent ringer for caravan
Well said michmvp 🤪
Where on earth did you find a brand new jug for an old honda? I need one for an 83 xl185!
Sorry for the new comment on an old episode…but… First…thank you for the amazing videos…they’re great for the DIY wannabes like me who just need to see someone else walk through the troubleshooting process learn a few diagnostic process. On the shifter issue, THAT was the thing you heard “drop†in the previous video when you was replacing the block half. You pause and looked for something that fell out…but it was that rod that dropped out of it’s seat and made a little tapping noise. Always fun to watch and learn and join in the little victories.
Best rehab right there
What happen to your arm my friend
Rob folks from holland is correct , the domed aftermarket piston has arrow on top that points to exhaust vavle – more comp but it hits head/inlet valve grind head of piston top is correct thing to fix extra base gasket means u may get away with lower octane gas but your loosing " squish " which favours pre-ignition so may not (get away with lower Octane gas ).😊 Trev NZ cheers. Keep up interesting videos .
Don't forget the oil or you wasted all that time.
Stack the deck in your favor…LOL
What a great job and thanks for educating me as well.
Learning so much from your mistakes! Fantastic result in getting it running nice. Well done.
20:04. Rocking it back and forth I was reminded of a time I did a cam swap on my 96 Mustang GT. I was just about buttoned up and was turning it through to double check timing when it LOCKED up. OMG I knew I’d ruined it. I panicked for a while, got on the forums for a while, and that was when I remembered it was still in gear with the brakes set.
Little bite size video like: how to set valve timing, how to remove broken stud, how to pull fuel tank dent etc. Love your work.
I would have just relieved the top of the piston with a dremel and those bits they use to port and polish intake tubes with. Stacking gaskets, nah, potential source of leaks.
Anyone else cringe when Mustie took the flapper disk to the piston hahaha
The piston have 180 degrees turned. arrow have to exhaust. Greating. frome Holland. ( a honda fan )
You can tackle anything. Really amazing.
Well done sir, Enjoyed this series!
Hello!, Did not watch rest of video yet, But I would not double stack gaskets, I would remove piston and it should be thick enough to mill off top or put in lathe and maybe take of .050-060 thousands, You can also take a 1 inch end mill and recess the valve section of piston.
You have to be very proud of all of that work on it.
i just bought a 79 model and the top is is take apart with the engine in a bag any tips or things i should know would be appreciated i am a beginner
A lady I knew as a kid gave me my first mower it was a reo type lawnmower made with a Clinton engine it was seized and I think I was about 7 or 8 but that's how I got started
That's because you washed the whole hole out
My heart sank when i heard her knocking, all that work,i felt so sorry for you, but you kicked back and your determination you succeeded and through learning by our mistakes,WE ALL MAKE THEM, we are only human. I watch your videos because of the learning curve and the thrill of seeing your sweat and tears come to life. so if those out there have negative comments, make your own videos and , we can watch your "professionalism" ,and perfection in action ,NOT. Keep up the good work buddy , Take care for now .Mac.
I just bought a 1974 honda xl125 and rebuilt the whole motor in my college apt bc i found gear teeth in my oil filter but it ran first try after reassembly after some carb tuning and your videos helped allot, keep up the good work.
Eh just run it, it will self clearance. 🤣🤣
I think you did another fine repair job – good job as usual, good video.
Hey Mustie, thanks for keepin' it real!
Always great when it all comes together. Enjoyed the take along.
Reminds me of the time I rebuilt an old IHC engine and was given wrong pistons, had cam bearings inserted improperly and had a blocked oil passage and had missing parts in a head rebuild. It was my only transport at the time. Sometimes good shops go bad over time and do really bad work.
I love the way you skipped over the whole “its all gotta come apart again to get this bolt in there†thing…If you didn’t edit out a blue streak then you definitely earned yourself a halo for the day.
Mustie do sell what you repair?, If so where?
A rare moment. I knew he had that timing wrong when he set it on the last video!
Thanks for making this video. Not many on this bike being worked on youtube.
