In this video, I dig into a customer’s 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee that came in on the hook for a no start, no crank. The tow truck driver figured it needed “a solenoid of some sort†(gotta love that diagnosis), but once the battery was charged we saw right away that nothing worked—no lights, no horn, no dome lamps, nothing at all. That means we’re missing a major power source. Time to chase it down and see what’s really going on.

I don’t understand why yall even use harbor freight. Just the sheer thought sends chills down my spine Eric O. Do better
I have seen the discounted sets at HF. I thought maybe the missing socket had been stolen.
Harbor Freight is a corporation. Corporations think weird. Every time.
Imagine buying a new set and you find the 10mm is already missing 🤣
That makes a beater look good.
Solution? Temu…
Buy from Temu. Harbor freight and home depot are greedy scam artist.
said the man , with a Snap-On wire brush. ( aca5 iirc )
Harbor freight has very odd Requirements to replace a socket in my opinion
@southmainauto I had a similar experience with a icon socket set I lost a 16mm. I took the remainder of the sockets into the store and told them the 16mm broke and I threw it in the trash because it was in small pieces. They switched out my whole set for a new set. If you got the time to drive to the store and take your sockets in that’s a better option than buying a single one and waiting for shipping
Saludos Eric ðŸ‘
Being an 81 year old retired mechanic back in my day I would clean the positive terminal also .
Hey Mr. O. You work WAAAY too hard. Not only are you running a successful business, but doing it online too. I don't have any advice other than slow your roll. Your health and stability mean 10X more in the long run. Do what you enjoy but please take care of your health. Your family and friends will thank you everyday. You've got so many videos online, and even the older videos are just as relevant today. Your videos inspire generations of mechanics. even shady tree ones like me. You and Harbor Freight got me doing things myself, but thankfully I have a mechanic six blocks away who won't charge me too much extra everytime his shop has to fix my f'up. That "six blocks" is how far I have to walk home after dropping off my Cheap Heap Compass in the morning in front of the shop. Mr. O, thanks. I still like your videos, even the ones I've watched 10X over. Please take care, the Holidays are coming up soon. Plenty of reason to close up a little early and get home. Blessings to your good family! NW Missouri here
Good info about HF.
Hey Mr. O, You're imitating Grover, not Cookie Monster. 😉
Cookie Monster? I thought it was Yoda.
Constructive criticism: I learned this from a Coast Guard mechanic who explained that when they get the call, they need the boat to start, no ifs or maybes. He taught me that corrosion at or near the battery is caused by the caustic environment on connections between bare metal parts. That the solution was a coating of grease on all parts prior to assembly. Greasy metal cannot corrode. And it offers no resistance to electricity on properly assembled parts. I resisted the logic for a few years, thinking about it in the back of my mind. After a couple of years, I saw the logic. Now ALL connections I make are done with plenty of grease!
Imagine how much money Harbor frieght lost processing the whole situation vs selling him a socket at the store.
Humanity is moronic to the core.
The harbor freight thing can confirm. Broke my Allen key off a Icon set. Went in told them exactly what I need. Dude opened up a brand new set and just gave me the key. Of course. Verified that I did purchase it on my account(important) and he’s like your all good. Lol like what. That’s a whole new set and just bam you put into lost/damaged inventory. Lol well ok what ever works for them. Can’t say it was hard tho. One thing about harbor freight if they have lifetime warranty on your tool. You just show up. Look up the account you purchased it on and they give you a new one no question asked. Quick and easy unlike some other companies where it is a dragggg for warranty with paperwork and shippingggg 🤦ðŸ¼â€â™‚ï¸ðŸ¤¦ðŸ¼â€â™‚ï¸
The reason you can't get an individual socket is because you just don't understand big business.
Did you know you repaired a car while telling a story 🤔.
if thats the issue then why dont they fix the prices and start selling individuals what if i have some other set snapon or craftsman or something and i want a replacement from harbor freight to instead to fix my set
ya i dont understand new chargers why would a battery charger not want to charge a dead battery thats the entire point
That's one reason why I stay away from Horrible Fright! The recalls on their jack stands is another reason. But hey, whatever works for other people!
It sounds like dealing with our GOV. CAN'T SELL YOU A SOCKET IF YOU DIDN'T BUY THE WHOLE SET ORIGINALLY, WTF ?
Stupid corporate rules, some bean counter that doesn't have a clue in hell what a socket is made that rule.
Now that was a stupid video. NOT
NONE OF YOUR VIDEOS ARE STUPID. THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING IN ALL OF THEM.
COMMON MECHANIC KNOWLEDGE ISN'T COMMON TO OTHER PEOPLE. 🇦🇺🤪ðŸ˜
man, glad i'm not alone. not stupid, that'll help some of us at some point…
Lesson: if you buy a used set of HF sockets you'd better never lose one as long as you live.
So that's why Harbor Freight has a clearance section with pieces of sets missing. All this time I've been wondering why people are returning sets with pieces missing or why is HF allowing sets to be returned with missing pieces.
I found your Hazard F@rt story amusing and can kinda relate, but in the opposite way… I had a set of the Pittsburgh Metric Ratcheting Double Box End Wrenches and broke one… didn't ratchet anymore, just spun. So I went to the store, produced the wrench, and they gave me a whole new set of 4 wrenches. Really? Yes, really. OK cool. So now I have 3 extra metric double box end ratcheting wrenches. I should break a different size so I can get another set. LOL
i was wondering, did you do a battery check since it came in dead? Also since the battery was disconnected the check engine light would have been turned off, did you look to see if there were any stored codes in relation to the the cylinder that had new parts on it. I know that's not what it was in for but just curious.
Can't believe it was the 12 mil. The 10 mil has the fastest legs in in the whole set.
Simple video, but could save hundreds on a tow bill. Great job Dr. O!
Thank you. I’m always looking for new ways to launder money.
I ran into many open issues coming off the battery. Lots in imports with all the leads. I do the same test. Fixed many issues doing that. Watch out for ac delco/gm bolt on aftermarket repair adaptors for the battery cable end. Somebody else's faulty repair has been some of the money I've made.
There are a lot of 5 finger discount socket sets hanging at Harbor Freight. Being able to sell individual sockets online without all that stupidity would save them money.
Thanks, Eric!
That is pretty odd to have to go through all that for one socket did you get a new snap on guy yet? We did have the same on but I think he sold the route for your area
Do another fishing video, this time bring missus oh, so we can all see her scream when she sees a fish.
I work at Lowe’s in tools dept, we are confronted with this same issue. Haveing to break sets to replace tools that only came in sets. We still do have some Craftsman sockets and wrenches as individual. All of out Kobalt sockets and wrenches just switched to sets only. Clearanced off All of the individual items. Fun times😊
Eric; Too bad you don't have the Canadian equivalent of Harbor Freight nearby. It is called Princess Auto and they will sell you any socket you want (impact, chrome, metric, inch, standard, deep, you name it…) individually with no hassle at all. Unfortunately they do not ship to the USA.
Hey Eric nvr a silly video from you. Different lessons learned in this video. Voltage drop. How & where to spend your money. The truth about lifetime warranty. & how to do hf warranty . Thank so much over the yr. True fan for 8 yrs now( I check every morning for the ride to wrk & after wrk for my one hr of man power.the time I spend to my self. Thanks again. Looking forward for the next silly video. â¤ï¸ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
They are profitable in spite of them selves.
Amazon next day deliver, sure its not going to be Icon but who cares…
Never bad videos, because everyone owns one of them cars now knows to keep that battery terminal cleaned.
Try replacing a broken Lowe’s Kobalt wrench under warranty without a receipt. You can’t.
I still have my craftsman tools that were mandatory tools when i went to work for the Peterbilt motor co in 1973 gee where did the 52 years go and still playing with motorcycles cars trucks and big trucks in my retirement after 40 years and continuing while retired as a 2025 crew chief spec mustang champion
Had a similar experience with craftsman for my ignition wrench set. But they wouldnt break up a set to replace a broken wrench finally after taking photos of the complete set they finally sent me a full set but not a return postage for the broken set so i kept both sets
