7. Yes, it is a bit of a trick and Samsung should have been upfront about it. So, moonshots should be default with no AI, but you are given an option, when the phone recognises that you are taking a moonshot, of using AI-processed ML software. Users can then switch to that, now fully informed that what Samsung is doing is ML, and that the 10X zoom clearly cannot take those crisp moon photos Samsung uses in marketing.

15. OP here. You nailed it with this video, the reasons why it's not the same as improving the greens in the grass, and showing how they sneakily advertise the moon in their promotional material, but never explicitly.

    For me personally, this isn't a topic of AI vs "pure photography". I am not complaining about the process – in fact, I think it's smart, I just think the the way this feature has been marketed is somewhat misleading, and that the language used to describe it is obfuscatory. The article which describes the process is in Korean, with no English version, and the language used skips over the fact that a neural network is used to fill in the data which isn't there optically. It's not straightforward. It's the most confusing possible way to say "we have other pictures of the moon and will use a NN based on them to fill in the details that the optics cannot resolve". So yes, they did say it, but in a way of not actually saying it. That's the issue, if you ask me.

17. that is how Mobile Photography is, it is fake and controlled by AI.

    It has been such for a long time.

    Phones DETECT FACES, HAIR COLORS, EYE COLOR, SKIN COLOR, then remove blemishes or sometimes even add a bit of skin and hair texture too, for men with facial hair, they add the hair texture to enhance the sharpness too.
    This is VERY PROMINENT in "NIGHT SHOTS" of every phone, there is no way it gets that many details of from a person's face in dark.

    They detect skies, landscape, etc too
    and then add the enhancement accordingly

    so the logic of it not enhancing the HALF MOON doesn't apply here cause it did not detect a moon.

    don't like it ? start using mirrorless or dslr for your selfies and other needs, lol.

    or just use the pro mode and turn off the scene optimizer you will get the normal photo

20. I watched the entire video on my S23 Ultra, which cost me 1,24,000 Indian currency. The fear of being deceived through misleading marketing was real, but thankfully, you reassured me that Samsung wasn't actually cheating. However, I couldn't shake off the same suspicion when I took my first moon photo with this phone, which got me thinking. I would appreciate it if you could create more videos like this, particularly for Samsung, discussing their misleading marketing practices and how they slow down older phones through updates. Although I am a fan of Samsung products, it's hard not to question some of their dubious practices.

21. I have s23ultra. I took a grand total of 3 moon shots so far… Just to show some people that it has this 100x.
    Its a gimmic thing n thats it. Nobody buys s23ultra to shoot moon, if someone did then they are dumb.
    Rest of the phone is great and i wouldnt miss it even if samsung removes the moon shot mode.

25. Not really a big deal. Most of the photos posted by brands in their SM pages claiming to be shot with one of their smartphones are fakes. They're either shot with a much higher priced smartphone or sometimes DSLR for flagships or are even heavily manually processed before uploading.

Would like to address some problem caused by Software update by Redmi,Poco,mi and interesting thing is those phone who's warrenty is expired are getting these kinda update and damaging phone's mainboard and these ppl are charging us 10-15k for replacement,I bought Poco F3 GT worth 27K INR in 2021
    Last month I got an software update and then my phone got dead.i visited their service center and they told me to pay 14K for the replacement for Motherboard.
    There are many users like this facing the looting of these brands.They are not ready to take responsibility of their own mistake in software.
    I request everyone here reading this,don't buy any Xiaomi,Redmi,Poco phones.

27. Big issue is that they had a huge marketing campaign where they showed the moon. mhkbd was fooled and did a short showing off the moon shot without mentioning it. Has since corrected himself but that video is going to stay up and Samsung still gets the benefit from it. Little sleazy. Should not be the default setting and they should have a moon mode or something, so it's really obvious to people that it's not an authentic shot but that you can have an interesting feature to make it look nicer.

    I think it's a cool feature if there shouldn't be the default setting with very little communication about what it is.

But 200 pixel size is 0.6 if you compare with xiomi/Vivo 1inch sensor pixel size is 1.6 microns obviously 1.6 sensor collects more light and data for processing, only an professional photographer will know the difference, personally I tested with my old mi 12 pro which has sensors size of 1.4 it performs better than s23 ultra in low light, it takes nice clean pictures. Most of people don’t accept this reality, every one fallen for 200 megapixels marketing gimmick. After lot of research I feel like wasted so much money on s23 ultra, hoping that they will improve with software updates.

35. AI is a technology that is starting to be used everywhere. It's very popular at the moment to let an AI app alter you into anime art. Make you look like a princess or a warrior.

    AI is not real. You might call it a computer extrapolation of reality. Or a computers view of reality that is somewhat manipulated by humans.

    Because remember like all computer technologies AI is still garbage in garbage out.

    The moon shots from the Samsung AI cellphone trained to take moon pictures isn't garbage.

    But it is not real. Nothing AI is real.

    I think using the word 'fake' to complain about the pictures is off the mark.

    Because how can you call a computer extrapolation fake?

    I think 2 better questions are how can you stop AI technology being used to deceive people? And how can you safeguard against abuse of the technology?

    So in conclusion-AI is not good or bad or fake or real: it simply is.

    AI is a reflection of both the strengths and weaknesses of the humans who invented it.

    Of course Samsung is going to put it's best foot forward to market it's products to consumers. Maybe they just needed to add a statement like "these moon shots were from an S23 ultra whose AI tech we trained to enhance astral photography.

    Then explain how the consumers can also train the S23 ultra.

    AI is amoral. Neither good nor bad. Humans lol. Not so much 🤏
