Old fashioned Carburetors I think they still work as good today
That carb i believe is either a 600 or a 650 cfm. I’ve never seen a 750cfm with a fuel rod for the rear bowl like that.
used a spread bore QUADRAJET on the 350.
50% of the carburetters you have to adapt them to fit that was the fun about them. If you’re only working on one it’s not that bad but we working on multiple ones and try nuts.
Not too worried about that the guy flying out the car unless the engine is really hot or you’re purposely using spark right away. That’s only time to be worried but I was just throwing fuel out and nothing going. That’s fine. I seen it so many times me and my dad worked on old trucks.
That belt! Oh and the brake fluid reservoir looks low!
Those 4 carb bikes are awesome. Especially if you got the carb in sync.
If you don't have to return the core and have some tinkering time I'd disassemble/reassemble the old carb just to get a idea of what's what
Is that the harbor freight gold ratchet wrench?
You nailed the question for sure and an understandable response. usually a mechanic will BS their way through it and make it worse but honestly is the best key. Hell yeah brother
The old Rochester carburators seemed to never fail. I hate all these aftermarket carbs that seem to be no better than Chinese junk.
Holley had a carb back in the 80's that had a water injector that actually lowered the emissions of the engine by a remarkable amount. The engine also seemed to have more HP
You're the best one-handed tech I've seen.
Ray, actually rebuilding the Holley would not be bad at all. Very easy. You just have to watch what screws come out where. And it really helps if you have an ultrasonic cleaner to get the core body clean again. Now, compared to putting on a new carb, there would be a lot more time involved. If you have the money, put a new carb on and keep the old one for backup or for another project.
Shop truck
The question I have is whether you checked the jets in the old carb to see what size they were before you ordered the new carb, cause you’re gonna have to setup the new carb for the engine….
I can't count the numbers of Holley carbs I rebuilt in my wrenching days. Disliked Carters & Quadrajets.
600 Holly carbs are easy to rebuild Ray and the small hose that you put on last that is your vacuum advance holes for your timing. There are two 5/8 nuts on the very top of each fuel bowl. That is how you adjust your fuel level there’s a site plug in the side of each Fuel bowl. You take the site plug out and you adjust those fuel levels until the fuel just barely trickles out the site plug hole. I see you didn’t do that. Makes me wonder if this carburetor is gonna fall on its face when he’s driving down the highway because the float levels have not been set .. also the air fuel mixture screws need to be set so your engine doesn’t run too lean or too fat that way you get the best spark you can you get the best performance you can and also you don’t foul out spark plugs ….Looks good Stay Safe 🇺🇸👊ðŸ¼ðŸ‘ŠðŸ¼âœŒðŸ¼
My mom used to work on the line at Holley in Bowling Green, KY during the 1960s. It was always funny to me because she knew nothing about cars.
Merry Christmas, Ray!
T-Clamps are not that great. When I replaced the radiator in one of my cars I switched to t-clamps for all coolant hose connections. Every time I lifted the hood I could smell the coolant and could see traces of it on the radiator. Tightening them did no good. I eventually swapped all t-clamps for NORMA worm-gear clamps and the leaks disappeared. I am not trying to promote a brand, but this was my experience.
First thing's first, replace that squealing bearing.
