My Grandpa had an old Gravely with a sickle bar on it. He had me running it when l was 11 or 12. It was the mid 70's so there weren't many rules on safety.
Gramps always said anyone can replace parts but a real mechanic can fix what's broken. Always think of that when uou pull apart stuff like the switches or salvage a coil by cleaning it. I always try to fix a part before replacing it too, mostly cause it's neat to see how they work but also because it helps me understand why it might not work if I encounter a similar broken part in the future.
I really want one of these! Something about them is so cool.
I just got my first Gravely. I grew up with them. But never owned one. I got a G16 that has a Kohler twin. I read that Gravely wanted 16hp engines but all Kohler had was 18 horsepower units so they put 16 hp badging on them. Does anyone know if this is true? My unit is almost spotless. Never been in rain. Paint is original. I feel like I am a teenager getting his first car

Amazing barn find but also makes me sad. At one time that shed was someone’s favorite chilling spot and where they parked their prized posesión. Now probably gone and their stuff is just seen as stuff to get rid off.

Having used one of these with a sulkie seat, if you put the seat on, wear a cup if you value your family jewels.

At least the in bowl fuel is still liquid & not varnish – definate carb rebuild if it was
