  1. i was not aware that papy was picked up by gnome, i know he went off to make his new project material-shell which is an extension for gnome.
also i did not make the project compatible with awesome 4.3, papy did. I just fixed issues with flickering, issues with tearing and starting somewhat to document the code that people would most commonly edit (like the policykit agent that would be used) and improve the launching of applications and fix the issues people would get with environment variables missing and lack of coherent themeing etc 🙂

  2. In the context of installing Debian 11 LXDE on a very old laptop, I discovered openbox was a bit of a problem due to packages becoming obsolete because python 2 is obsolete…bla de blah etc.
My comments here are somewhat on the same page with window management, yeah, anyway!
Still working on that one, finding out about tint2 etc.
Anyway, I was wondering if you have done a video about obsoleted packages and what experience you have had yourself with packages becoming obsolete in this way with python 2 is dead now.
What can we do about it, where to look for information and useful replacements on these obsoleted packages?

  3. 4:19 yes terminal there its awesome. why need window manager. linux is awesome on bash. not desktop. 3% is proove..wait maybe it that annoying distro/flavor and upgrade every 6 month. keep peepol on windows. where is one linux OS and themes(distros). there is too many choices even they all same. i love bash but i use windows desktop bcoz all programs i use on windows

  4. The amount of options you get when first switching from Windows is like the apes looking at the monolith, it is jarring and frightening and you just can't choose but then it hits ya…

  5. I love the way this looks, I tried and failed to install this on my computer. I have played around with Awesomewm and I think its a bit beyond my abilities at the moment. Great video and work on this.

  6. help me i have kde i saw something very alarming it swallowed like 2 gb ram i have 4 gb i tried
restarting and no change i used top command to find what was going wrong it is plasma shell
i am using pop os and chrome os theme

  7. have you ever tried NIXOS;; what do you think about the ability to install a new OS and then if it is not working going back to the previous rev or installation?

  8. Hi Chris! I am struggling with my new LTS upgrade. I am using nemo for long time. Since around ubuntu 12.xx. Now i was upgrade from 18.04LTS to 20.04LTS (FocalFossa) and can not find any nemo-terminal extension. Any idea how to get it??
    Thanks

  9. I must have watched this video more than a few times, and finally hit like. I am running Debian Bullseye, and have awesome install from the repository, and I like it quite a bit better than openbox and all the other boxes. I when to github, copy and pasted sudo add-apt-repository ppa:regolith-linux/unstable -y and got the message: add-apt-repository: command not found.. Which I am used to seems 9-10 I have to scramble around find the way to change commands to work.
Could I just add this repository though nano, update and be good? I am new to all this and running on a Lenovo R61i, its about 12yrs old.

  10. How do you bind applications to different workspaces, then run them at startup and how do you auto run apps at startup? Sorry Linux noob over here 😅

  11. People who are using a Gnome/Ubuntu-based distro but who want to try a Window manager but without losing the advantages of the desktop system tools or fight with config files in frustration, I highly recommend Regolith. They do a full Ubuntu-based distro that combines i3-gaps with Gnome but they also provide the i3-gaps integration separately so you can easily install (and uninstall) it on your current distro. It's a great way to get used to a Window manager style way of working. Personally, I probably won't go further than that but it may wet your appetite to go full Window manager. It's a Window manager gateway drug basically 🙂
