In this video I have a look at a customers ’09 Hyundai Sonata that has the engine like on with a P0880 that just won’t go away. It involves calling some help from Keith @L1Training and a trip to Wilbert’s U-Pull It@wilbertsupullit . Ends up being a neat find and an easy fix.
-Enjoy!

That 3.5V was a substitute value. Kinda like how a dead cam sensor causes an extended start. The confuser doesn't know what's going on, so it guesses. European manufacturers have been doing that for decades.
A classic lesson in, “just because that’s the way you found it, doesn’t mean it’s right.â€
Well done! Always enjoy the trip to Wilbert’s U-Pull It of Bath, not a sponsor.
What motivates Americans to own a Hyundai? Can someone please explain?
I think Eric works on cars just so he has an excuse to go to Wilbert’s not a sponsor.
Fake Relay , Fake Shunt. Totally unnecessary. Shunt: provide (an electrical current) with a conductor joining two points of a circuit, through which more or less of the current may be diverted [ the current was never diverted].
Interesting
Swap the computers PCM each time there’s an inspection, then clear the code.
23:12 No whammy, no whammy, no whammy, STOP!! Wait, does Wilbert's have whammies?
Love your work keep it up😅
I wonder why the OEM didn't just put a fuse in there
Thanks
Excellent diagnosis
Hi I have a 2016 Mitsubishi outlander sport Ireplaced the rear passenger hub and sensor and still getting ABS .
Took do dealer and they want to charge me for another hub if that not it then sensor if nit that then they will look else where the problem is but the price keeps going up .What do you think it is .And by the way where you located at I'm in Maine
Now if this was a state or city vehicle, don't be surprised if they take a full 8 hour day to locate the problem and fix it when it was just a few bulbs. They will claim it was a broken wire in the harness somewhere.
I have found a bad connection at ecm so many times by tapping at each connector at ecm and engine stalls I just disconnect it clean and reconnect problem solved to finish rest of diagnostics
Man where was this info before I went through 4 duralast MAFs, good timing tho, after OEM it's been 4 years, and sure as shit I got the P0101 again this week, right when smog is due too. I'll be taking your advice and verifying the circuit this time. As an OEM MAF lastng 4 years doesn't sit right with me. Thanks for everything you do, I knew watching your videos I'd pick up some relevant info I could apply.
Another repair person here on YT said that Hyundai and Kia were 2 brands to avoid. I never owned one but must be something to it since they stumped this guy too! Codes give a lot of info but some is contradictory.
Acceleration pedal sensor.
that's why they have different color and part number
I’d bet that the same fuse & relay box is used on multiple models of Kia / Hyundais, and in some models they may wire a real relay in that spot to control the 12V going to the transmission solenoid. That “shunt relay†(jumper) just allows them to use the same box without having the control signal.
It said in one of the first lines in the DTC description that if a component was replaced without resetting the code, that it wouldn't work.
Voice of experience here- A paper clip, straightened and horseshoed makes an excellent jumper for a Prevost bus AC system! It's a small world.
Lesson?
Dont buy that junk from either Kia or Hyundai. Or any of that type of vehicle for that matter.
Government must inspect, must comply, must meet our requirements or you cannot drive the vehicle. Ug, glad I don't live in inspection state.
That was interesting I'll be damn.
Hopefully you pack heat working out there in the open in the dark. your a perfect target for some jackass to make a quick couple grand on your tools laying there
A shunt is a device that is designed to provide a low-resistance path for an electrical current in a circuit. It is typically used to divert current away from a system or component in order to prevent over current.
Shunts are to measure Voltage.
In electronics, Shunt usually means Parallel circuit.
Make sure you know what's goin in what hole. Word….
