Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4×4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

Ray, I was a mechanic for 53 years. Now retired. I love watching you do this stuff cos it’s not me
I learned so much watching this video. I almost didn't click on it.
This brings me back to the days in Colorado Springs, CO where I was there with my 1973 dodge dart swinger 225 slant six with 4 speed trans, during my tour of duty in the Army at Fort Carson. I came home in the snow and my clutch went out so I put it up on jacks and pulled the trans and put a new clutch into my car that evening after work. Thanks go out to my father who taught me how to be a mechanic when I was a teenager in Montana at several gas stations that he owned. I didn't have everything you have in tools and other things so making do with what you have is what I did and it's always worked for me. One other thing is just think for a bit that our military has worked with the cheapest procured items and even with that we have always dot the job done. Thanks for what you do and I'm sure you are encouraging new mechanics to do what is right and to do it right the first time.
Every U-joint I have replaced " many " have been done with a hammer and a " centered " vice. lolool thx for sharing
I miss my 95 F150 with a 4wd manual. I had to do a clutch on it too
I always say “Parts is Partsâ€, never true!
My uncle had a garage and he taught me to use a grease gun and put the end in the shaft hole and hold it and pump it to remove pilot bearings
My father also taught me to use two long metal bolts with the heads cut off and use them as alignment dowels to indicate the tranny to the bell housing.
I was doing this with jack stands so the dowels made it much easier.
U joints are high risk now??
That’s the first thing I learned in high school auto shop
Back in the 80’s my father taught me to put a glob of grease inside the pilot bearing, then pound in a rod and the hydraulic pressure squeezes the pilot bearing out. It worked on all the ones I changed
Well that’s interesting…. In the uk we call that clutch part the pressure plate not the basket….. interesting I’m learning other sayings from the states. And another thing I have noticed is that flywheel doesn’t have little dowels to align the clutch basket
I have a lot of respect for you but to get that pilot bearing out all you have to do is pack the bearing full of grease then drive a socket in backwards with an extension in it and the hydraulics will push it right out. 2 minute process. I’ve also heard of people using bread but I like grease. Old school hot rodder trick:)
Use your ball joint press to do u joint jobs. Really easy and does no damage to the drive shaft.
Use heavy grease on cut up rags, then pack it in the pilot hole with a bolt and keep smashing that cut up rag full of grease, it'll hydraulic itself out..i think slices of bread may work, tho ive never tried bread..
Should pack some grease in cavity on back side of seal if hammering in seal – can help prevent spring popping off inside of seal
The Bestest brand starter you were about to install are junk. I sold those for many years at O's. They are not fully remanufactured, only the parts that fail are replaced. Glad you installed a fully reman. Ultima Starter.
One is for a manual trans the other one is for automatic trans
5:33 Made in China! Yeah, Ford relies on Chinese parts, sigh…
Ded blow hammer.
Umm. Heat expands, cold contracts. Ie thermal expansion.
What u joints are so easy. Even with all our rust here in Canada
Don't you have a trash can
Older model Ford's had engine family, and that meant that they had to have the right transmission and starter for the engine family.
I'm glad that the crankshaft didn't crack.😊
You should put more grease in the uni cups before fitting to the tail shaft the grease in them is only packing grease..plus some never seize on the outside
I've always found it easier to connect the wires then bolt the starter on the bell housing.
Don't you just hate it when your nuts hit the floor?
Some older baby-boomer "grease monkey" guys ARE "basket cases" under pressure with vehicles they would like to avoid…😮
Used put grease in pilot bushing I.D.
then tap an old tranny input shaft to hydraulically push out bushing…then clean out crankshaft recess for oilite bushing(NO graphite, or lube of any type!)…place a piece of oak hardwood over bushing and use a large 4Ib stubby-handle and centrally and gently tap in to just crankshaft until flush…[never had or used the "welding method"(that is hazardous to anyone's eyesight). Not recommended AFTER you put new seal in!)
Other than this disagreement, I admire your "can-do P.M.A."
and do learn mucho grande
about 2000 and beyond auto technology…I just cannot afford all the equipment and tools at my almost 75y.o.
retirement-
ed age now…
God bless you all
And Happiest
Holy Days…
(Advise not to try working after turkey dinner…you could actually take a "trip-tover your
floor fan…and we may not see you next fall"!!😅😅…😢

Basket=pressure plate in my day.
Good job ther Raymond nice to see you at work mate good job the wife is there to help lol â¤â¤ðŸ˜‚😂🎉🎉😅
That was a very smart deduction in welding technique, we, the viewers, hope that every car mecahnic who faces similar problems think so thourougly as you do Ray, very good video indeed.
Boy I will replace anything in a damn truck 😂😂😂😂 and this was before was a machinist
Not rain man having an ENTIRE Subaru engine on the work bench XD
That's like stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime…
Cost or not…. you never change a clutch without changing the throw out bearing….
Put a small amount of lite grease on the input shaft that goes in the pilot bearing…makes it easier to stab the transmission….
I put a little grease on my little finger and coat the bearings and they don't fall out… also, tap on the u-joint with a hammer and it loosens the joint…
You did right 👠on changing the u-joint…
Don't forget the pilot bearing..
You're a smart young man
