In this video, I go over how to use Minecraft mods and old servers in Linux. I go over connecting to a custom server running Minecraft 1.7.10 and using the LOTR mods.

  1. Thanks for trying to be helpful to people but I seem to be able to play Minecraft and Terraria on linux but I seem not be able to mod them at all! DX
😀 Not a deal breaker though.

  2. Iinstalled the technic launcher and my periferals cut out, I wen't on a massive spree changing distros andplaying with my pc since I had no clue what to do and came back and my keyboard and mouse worked I was able to delete it and everything seems fine now but this definately game me a shock

  3. Something I've noticed about using Linux: things are either jarringly easy or jarringly complicated to do, regardless of how complicated the task you're trying to do is. Hooking up a second monitor was way easier than I expected. Installing programs downloaded from a website was way harder than I expected (in my earlier days of Linux). This, and a lot of things I was able to do by accident, after having given up and discovering a solution while trying to do something else.

In short, Linux is different from Windows & Mac. Idk how relatable this is, but even after having used Linux for years, I'm constantly surprised by how much the expected difficulty deviates from the actual difficulty. How many times I've opened up terminal, ready for a doozy, only to realize it's either 1 command or completely unnecessary.

  4. Hello Chris I see that you run Debian. Would you be up to the task of making a video talking about if you use the Deb-Multimedia repository? I've used it but sometimes I wonder if your only supposed to enable it to install something and then disable the repo when it comes to upgrading package updates etc. Sometimes it feels like it breaks things but I'm not sure. I love that Debian is rock solid stable and have used it in the past but it tends to look extremely boring as far as themes go and without Deb-Multimedia it feels like its missing half of the packages that other mainstream distros have available out of the box. Hopefully you see this and respond. Thank you for all of your great content!

  5. Thank you for this, it helped me get Minecraft running with a shader mod which I've wanted for a while. I can't figure out how to install resource packs though. I created a folder called resourcepacks which it was looking for, but didn't exist, and put the packs in there. I can switch to them in game, but it only changes the menu textures, not the textures for any objects in the game.

  6. I am probably one of the few people on the planet who has never tried Minecraft but after watching this video, I might just have to join your server. So how do you like the server or should I say the server host? Speaking of servers, I have been running two computers; one with Windows and one with Linux but I'm seriously considering taking my more powerful computer and dumping Windows and installing Linux on it. If I need windows at all, I'll run a VM and run Windows in it. I was thinking of setting up my second computer as a server. I'm not sure how hard that is to do but I'm sure it's challenging for a noob. So back to Minecraft, does the server install the base game plus the LOTR mod or do I have to already own MC and then add the mod?
