  1. Diesel needs compression to combust. Fuel sprayed outside would not provide compression. Spark will not ignite diesel fuel. As I stated in a previous comment heat must be sustained to ignite diesel. Brake fluid however doesn't. It is highly flammable. So a spark can ignite brake fluid.

  2. I wonder if the transfer case ran out of fluid. The piece on the bed broke off. The drive shaft came apart and ripped all the wiring and lines loose. It was probably brake fluid that caught fire initially. After that the rest of the truck burned.

  3. I just saw an advertisement for Foged. They are giving away a Lexus SUV. They are bragging that it generates 400 horse power. Then I remembered you built a 1000 horse power capable Duramax. I think Forged is a chump.

  4. why is the front driveshaft driving the truck??? only an awd system (on 5500??) thats bad news if theres no front diff right? looks like the power train was bindind and the t case was the weakest link mayhaps whata yalle think keep it up ray ur awsome!

  5. It looks like one of two things happened:

-After the transfer case bearings failed, they began heating up, melting the brackets that hold the wiring and ripping out the wires and brake lines when they touched the spinning prop shaft as the fire grew.

    Or

-A fire started in something else under the cab, melted the wires/brake lines whoch were yanked out when they touched the transfer case/prop shaft.

  6. I know this is an older video, but aim just seeing it now. As a retired firefighter and fire investigator for the city I worked in and insurance companies after I retired from public service I can say you are spot on. The witness statement from the owner seemed to be. Lacking some details. Because of the driveshaft/u-joint failure, you’d expect to hear some indication of a catastrophic mechanical failure like a loud bang. I know you probably didn’t do the interview but despite the lack of that important fact, you were spot on with your findings. Good job Ray. If you get sick of turning wrenches you have a future in vehicle fire investigations. The pay is good! I was also certified as a vehicle fire investigator by the Natl. Assoc of Fire Investigators. They happen to be located near you in Sarasota. I’m in the New England area.

  7. Every time i watch your videos, i become more impressed by your knowledge. This video took that to a whole new level. You are a true master of your craft. To look at a wrecked and melted piece of scrap and find that small detail in order to deduce the initial cause, i salute you.

  8. That was some impressive troubleshooting! I hope to have skills like that someday, I thought at first the transfer case cracked from the heat. Assuming Rainman Ray's diagnosis is correct, the owner of that truck should be compensated for his loss by the manufacturer.

  9. 5:55 Greetings: Can U say Car-B-Q? Wow. Cab a TL. I could probably save the carrier if lower, upper and slide not bent. From initial observation and about halfway I about figure the same events as U. However I have a few problems in the timeline. There is fire, mechanical and rear structure damage. The fire could have caused the Tcase failure or the Tcase failure caused the fire. As per the initial report U said of his statement, there was nothing about hearing loud noise or drivability in the beginning. If the Tcase caused the fire I suspect the front shaft was engaged whilst "on road" operation. If the Tcase caused the fire and brake problems there would have been a loud noise under the cab driver side. If the fire started 1st, still there would have been a loud noise. There was no mention of how the CMV impacted the rear. Was the Ram stopped and the CMV was not attentive and 2 fast? Such is not cause but a result of the fire…domino effect.
B real careful feeling around in fire damage without protection. Since Ram is produced in Mexico there is no doubt of poor Mfr and assembly. Thx 4 the share.
