FRONTLINE goes inside the fight over abortion. Drawing on a landmark FRONTLINE film from the 1980s, the documentary takes a look at both sides of the abortion divide in a community still embroiled in the conflict. (Aired 2019)

In 1983 – 10 years after Roe v. Wade – a landmark FRONTLINE documentary, “Abortion Clinic”, showed the experience of and conflict over abortion like never before on American television.
Nearly 40 years later, FRONTLINE returned to Pennsylvania to look at both sides of the abortion debate in “The Abortion Divide.”

From producers Mark Obenhaus and Elizabeth Leiter, “The Abortion Divide” offers a window into the sometimes difficult and deeply personal choices women face with unplanned pregnancy – and examines the steadfast belief of the anti-abortion community that there should be no choice at all.

  1. I really want to see a documentary about both sides presented somewhat unbiasedly. Maybe two sides of the argument talking respectfully to each other and etc., since I personally fully understand both sides.

  2. Im only saying 2 things. I wish that woman with the blue dress and brown, long hair would stop smiling. And secondly, the strange men harassing women outside the clinic, and the men trying to change legislature surrounding womens rights can kick rocks. I don't think I want to finish this doc, unfortunately. Its making me enraged in all types of ways and when it comes down to it-its none of my business!

  3. "People of all religions" get abortions… interesting given that there is a relgiously-backed anti-abortion movement. Would also be interesting to see if many of those who claim to be so against abortion and protest in front of clinics have gotten abortions themselves. Just read an article about how an originally very conservative and religious person changed her views on abortion when she chose to get one herself.

  4. Why aren't these protesters asking the men about their responsibilities? For those men who protest that they don't have a voice, or a choice, why aren't they there standing beside the women who are pregnant with their children?

Where is the shame for these men?

  5. It's going to happen whether it's a law or not. At least without laws against it, women can do it safely. The fact that these people are all for defending a pregnancy, but care absolutely nothing for the children already born who are in the foster care pipeline, is telling.

  6. As a Catholic Christian and a Knight of Columbus, I’m adamantly pro life and that means I’m adamantly against abortion rights. But my religious views and beliefs are not the only reason why I’m pro life and anti abortion. I happen to be pro life Democrat. And why am I pro life Democrat? Because I come to realize that not all Democrats are for abortion rights. Some in fact are pro life and anti abortion. So those are the 2 reasons why I’m pro life and anti abortion. And I also found out that not all Republicans are pro life and anti abortion. Some in fact are pro abortion. Take for example former Republican governor of Massachusetts Bill Weld. He became an advocate for abortion rights so did former Republican governor of CT Jodi Rell. And it would be surprising if Democratic candidate for President decided to outlaw abortion rights. It would be surprising for me in a good way but not for others.

  7. I know someone who had an abortion because her baby would have died after it was born. Long story short. Leave her alone. If it's for medical reasons it should be allowed.

  8. I'm glad the government has stepped up to protect LIFE. When mankind begins to believe LIFE is just a useless blob… it is a sign that we are on our way to extinction. Are we all just useless parasites, with no value, infesting this planet?

Abortion is NOT about 'freedom of choice' or 'it's MY body.' This is what abortionists tell women to empower them and encourage them to eliminate their own fetuses.

Why? Stem cell research…Greed, money. Search for cures like aging, cancers, alzheimers, etc.

These abortionists don't care about anyone's babies and much less, human rights. Has anyone received after care or psychological counseling from an abortion clinic? Hah!

Having a baby out of wedlock or raising a child without old fashioned judgement …is freedom. (That judgement was mostly from other women who aimed to make themselves look more pious and righteous. Similar to the pro-abortionists who claim that scraping a living being, with a beating heart, from their uterus, is personal freedom. Do not be fooled by these liberal fetus stealing manipulators.

Looking into a crowd of such women, with conviction and pride on their faces… is nauseating.

  9. The majority of abortions (over 95%) are done out of the convenience of the woman. There’s a small proportion of abortions that are truly medically necessary. I really am grateful that society is now starting to realize that abortion is murder.

  10. it takes two people, a man and a woman, to create a baby, so why is the majority of the blame/responsibility typically placed on the woman simply because she is the one who births the child? she is labeled as promiscuous because her body shows the proof of her having had sex, while men walk around and people will be none the wiser
