  1. A trick I do to get back a little from an old drum brake is to wrap the round pivot stud with some sheet metal. Typically I cut a slice of an old tin can and wrap to fit around the pin. Has the net effect to move the contact a little further away from the pivot lever.

  2. I haven't counted lately but my wife tells me I've got fourteen motorcycles in the garage. All I know is I've been dragging a bunch of bikes around for years waiting for the day when I could work on restoring them. I did manage to put a '71 engine in a '77 triumph bonneville frame last year along with new paint and tune up. I'm ready to see if it will run so I guess I should film it.

  3. 'Never us a screwdriver as a clamp!' LOL! I wondered why you had images of tools on the tool box instead of letters, until you mentioned dyslexia on another video. For some types of reading challenges, there are exercises to help with that. Really enjoy your videos, quite sense of humor, and I'm learning a lot. Keep up the great work!

  4. I think you should get tested – – – – I believe you might be a genius. Never thought that muffler patch was gonna fit. Or perhaps I am the one who should get tested?

  5. dude.. spend the money and replace those parts that should be replaced. i.e. mufflers.. they are still available. if i hired this person to restore my bike, i would not accept this solution. i appreciate the vids, but please try not to half booty the project.

  6. "Never use your screw driver as a pry bar" About the third time i have heard you say that and every time you do………….IT WORKS!!! I love it and laugh out loud every time you say it and it is always under your breath. I always use my screw driver as a pry bar and yes IT WORKS!! Thanks for bring life back to a great bike, Dr. Mustie.

  7. That final jet on the cardorator you pulled out is pressure fit. That isn't a spot for a screw head and are commonly damaged because they look like they screw out.

  8. Throwing an old, gunky chain into some gasoline literally melts all the goo off instantly. It'll be smooth like butter! THEN throw it into some ATF. I have a container with old gas that i use for cleaning stuff, works great.

  9. The funny thing for me is the foot pegs – I'd swear they're installed upside down. The ridges should be on the top to give you a little cushioning, and the outside edge should slope down and under the bile, so they don't scrape as easily. I've never seen someone install this way before. 😛
