  1. why didn't you heat it before you bent it a lot of that you can save yourself a lot of pounding and hammering and your hammers ain't big enough you need a bfh right?

  2. In the EU we have rules for draw bars (what you guys call a tounge).
4mm or thicker for bent materials or 3mm walled box if using box section so your use of the shelving part would not get past our not.

  3. I might have welded on a piece of rebar with a pipe in the middle. Sort of like some cherry pickers. Stress on the tongue would put tension on the rebar.

  4. friends used to have a wall phone, # 31 on 30….better than a pocket fone and it it is in the house, it is never heard, great eh? I knew it was super…:)

  5. Rather than have you do all that work cutting, fabricating a reinforcement, welding, hammering & reshaping everything, why didn't your friend just buy a new, heavier wall, stick of tubing & a new hitch coupler? Couldn't have been too expensive to just replace it.

  6. That operating principle would make a very useful trailer for cars. But a design that could withstand all of the weight and stress of an automobile would be quite heavy I imagine. The tilt mechanism could be made from a heavy duty differential and for the pivoting motion maybe some type of fifth wheel hitch.

  7. mustie1, "Beating it into submission" is a good idea, I hope U used some profanity for lubrication when the camera was off….  Nice use of the BFH!  Trailer is better than new now, thanks for posting!

  8. My dad had a 48 jeep flat fender a few months ago. The tow hitch on the front fell down while driving and the front end went up and we spun around and went through a fence. Boy, it was scary but just another story to add to the collection -greg

  9. Not sure I like that swivel clevis thingy. You're right — it is another point of weakness. Nice repair though. Hope the low-hangy steel doesn't end up snagging on things. That'll test the strength of the trailer hitch mount on the tow vehicle, that's fer sher!
