why didn't you heat it before you bent it a lot of that you can save yourself a lot of pounding and hammering and your hammers ain't big enough you need a bfh right?
You should have opened the brace up and pounded it down over the tongue first before welding it on.
Why not try a flat piece of metal and a larger hammer, like a 12 lb. er
That's the funniest portapotty that I have ever seen, most they are tall, oblong and stink.
Quit being cheap! Replace all that crap!
In the EU we have rules for draw bars (what you guys call a tounge). 4mm or thicker for bent materials or 3mm walled box if using box section so your use of the shelving part would not get past our not.
wowo a lot of work
Top job mate. A man with a plan lol
Your videos have come a long way in five years.
Bing bing bang bang bang bang bang bang bang sure noisy mister 🙂
Good Job
Not Safe….Not Cool……
TOO FUNNY!!! I HATE PHONES TOO!!!!!
torch?
A little heat may have helped in "beating it into submission"..
Put that kink in the vise, flatten it right out !
Good video. I bet all those holes in the patch metal will become a wasp hotel,
I would never trust that old coupler again.
Way too much liability in your repair and replacing it the tongue with a heavier tubing would've been a better idea
dont you just love it when your hammering something held in the vice and stuff on the workbench vibrates off and falls on the floor
That is why I love metal if don't go your way just hit it with a big hammer lol 😂
D.O.T will love u for that, lol
I might have welded on a piece of rebar with a pipe in the middle. Sort of like some cherry pickers. Stress on the tongue would put tension on the rebar.
friends used to have a wall phone, # 31 on 30….better than a pocket fone and it it is in the house, it is never heard, great eh? I knew it was super…:)
Rather than have you do all that work cutting, fabricating a reinforcement, welding, hammering & reshaping everything, why didn't your friend just buy a new, heavier wall, stick of tubing & a new hitch coupler? Couldn't have been too expensive to just replace it.
That operating principle would make a very useful trailer for cars. But a design that could withstand all of the weight and stress of an automobile would be quite heavy I imagine. The tilt mechanism could be made from a heavy duty differential and for the pivoting motion maybe some type of fifth wheel hitch.
Got a runner lol
mustie1, "Beating it into submission" is a good idea, I hope U used some profanity for lubrication when the camera was off…. Nice use of the BFH! Trailer is better than new now, thanks for posting!
My dad had a 48 jeep flat fender a few months ago. The tow hitch on the front fell down while driving and the front end went up and we spun around and went through a fence. Boy, it was scary but just another story to add to the collection -greg
From a junk to being able to use again……Nice work……Your friend is a lucky guy to know you…
Every scrap is fair game.
Great Fix
Not sure I like that swivel clevis thingy. You're right — it is another point of weakness. Nice repair though. Hope the low-hangy steel doesn't end up snagging on things. That'll test the strength of the trailer hitch mount on the tow vehicle, that's fer sher!
Nicely done.
Great repair.. that vice of yours works out well.. Take Care..
Great repair Mustie .. The axle will fail before the hitch or tough does again !
