how can you call yourself a mechanic – Ever other word needs to be a swear word – and you have to be ticked off at the parts – and you need to have a smoke hanging out of your mouth as you work on fuel tanks – stop being so nice and happy
I feel for the people that bought that car
My versa s sick too
I"m not familiar with "buy here pay here" lots, if they exist here in CA. But, as Ray has said a number of times about PRE-=Purchase inspections…it might have seen this transmission issue beforehand. The old saying, "Buyers Beware" fits, but it does nothing to soften the blow to that customer. I just bought a seven year old truck, from a dealer lot. I paid more than I wanted to, but the dealer does have some responsibility on issues with the vehicle. I also bought an extended type warranty for seven years. I got a great vehicle, and am very happy with it. During my search for it I did peruse many places for used vehicles. The prices for used vehicles is very high right now, and probably will be for a while.
And as for the second part of the video, the ProMaster Ram van, too bad someone worked on that without the knowledge of those oil cooler's tendency for leaks. They are already there in the area with the repairs they were doing, it would have only been a parts cost to replace it. Now, 5 hours labor, not cheap.
In our industry, we often have these vehicles in our shops. Most of us sympathize and try our best to provide a satisfactory service, it has happened in the past, and will happen again. I've been there too, Ray.
Usually a used car off a buy here pay here lot comes with a 90 day power train warranty so that might be a good start.
Hey Ray, I have watched many of your videos, a d am always amazed at the miles on the clock of many of your jobs. 200,000 to 300,000 not uncommon. This comes as a surprise to me, given the general perception that US people change vehicles regularly. Blows that theory into the weeds! Your US new vehicle prices compared to ours down under make me think that it would be cheap to replace, rather than repair some of the old junk.
Having said that, I appreciate your work in repairing the repairable, and keeping cars, trucks etc on the road for longer.
Great work Ray and thanks for the videos.
Appreciate your work. Happy days to you.
Even a new car has risks but you really need to at least get the drive train checked out. We used to joke about sawdust in the transmission. There’s always going to be people out there doing that sort of thing.
They sell the used cars that dealership reject
I have been watching a plethora if Rainman Ray videos for one where Ray takes a test drive, the car dies, Ray's cell phone's battery is dead so he flags someone down and it happens to be a minivan full of porn stars going to a convention in Miami and they abduct Ray which leads to a cocaine fueled debacle misadventure.
You have to be careful with those people
I learn something new every video, keep it up!
I guess buying a used vehicle is buyer beware, as a retired mechanic from down under I have seen this a few times. It also seems that it happens to the people who can least afford it. Love your work Ray, just wish I had all the great tools available to mechanics today.
get a Jasper" brand transmission, if the body and engine are good it would be worth it.
Show me a Nissan that doesen`t have a Junk Transmission. My Company has them for Delivery Vehicles. Garbage Cars. Great Video BTW.
I have a 3.6 in my Caravan, havent had any problems. I suspect most failures of the oil cooler is due to over tighting the cover of the filter. That massive nut needs a big socket, inviting way to much force on the assembly. Everytime i change the filter i wind it down until it stops, then resist the temptation to give it a little extra
Another mechanic on YouTube says all these trans are made by Jatco and areJunk. Honda and Toyota make their own Trans and are Much Better
Dang thought that was a gator in front of the van….
Those dam dodge vans are time bombs. I’m not joking we get about one a month to replace a exploded motor out of (usually valves). I’m not sure who’s idea it was to stuff that little v6 in even the one ton commercial vans that are going to spend their entire lives overloaded like crazy but it was a bad idea. A friend of our shops that owns an ac business has 6 of them and we’ve replaced or rebuilt 5 of the motors all the v6. (The 6th is the diesel and no issues). We get them in all the time from just random customers too mostly commercial with that too tiny already crappy motor. If your going to buy one of these shit boxes get the diesel motor or anything bigger than that v6. They struggle to move the vans even empty and eventually just say dueces âœŒï¸ I’m done can’t move this thing or the 20,000 pounds of crap in the back you got and boom done.
Any Nissan past 2007 with a CVT is garbage
Are you sure that's a 2014?
They could have checked the results in Nissans cvt Trans and saw the life of them
Tell that customer to check the Florida statue 681 of the lemon laws.
who would take a 3 tonne van and make it front wheel drive? only the italians.
