  1. I would find bosch 30/40 amp relays with the metal mounting band VF4 and change all the relays. Those plastic relays are junk. Trust me the Bosch relays are much better. I would not go up in the bucket with that cheap shit.

  2. You can add a remote start system on the van and set it for a 30 min run time. That way you dont need the key to start it, and if someone gets in and tries to drive it the motor shuts off when you touch the brake to shift it into gear. You can't drive off with the van.

If you have the key in it they could drive off with it and you up in the bucket.

  3. Most industrial controls, such as the e-stop, will have imprints on one face that explain its operation, part #, sometimes internal diagrams. Every system is powered through the e-stop first, such that if ANY system fails, you push the button in & ALL systems are stopped. The one you have here uses a N.O. & N.C. Contact (to be wired as needed. Another set of contacts can be mounted along side for further controls of interlocks. The color of the plastic case most often describes the contacts functions. Different uses are normally indicated by color (within the same manufacture) for simplicity.

  4. I have noticed that the cars you work on are rusted as bad as the ones back here in Minnesota. They must use road salt as much as we do here. I Give any new car that hasn't been undercoated 5 years and then the cars or trucks are shot everything will be half gone from rust. There are some cars that handle the salt better then others but that's only if you get it washed a couple times a week. If you do that and get the underbody wash it will last a lot longer. But only if you keep up with the washes.

  5. A cute (funny story). I de-ice for ABX (I was a causal mechanic). A good day if you had two man concept. One man in the truck and one in the boom. Well my fellow co-worker was in the boom De-icing our company airplane. He finished his task and the boom would not lower. I am driving away from the airplane and driving with it fully extended maybe 5 mph. The 2-way com was cutting out and the pour soul must have thought I was gonna launch him out of the bucket. That was a great part time job. Rich S. 1989-2008.

  6. very late view, but watching him work in that lower relay box using tiny channel-locks or the wire strippers to take the nuts off those breaker switches made me cringe… use a 3/8 or whatever size socket and a driver for them!!!.. i know they aren't THAT tight, but use the correct tool for the job!!

  7. Mount a 5 gallon bucket with quick release latches in the back cargo area for taking dumps. Average man can go a month before filling the bucket depending if you piss when you dump. When you gotta poop you gotta poop.

  8. what i wouldn't do to hang out with a guy like you for a day to just learn all the little stuff you've learned over the years from wrenching on stuff. i love your videos just from watching I've learned a ton of things

  9. I think I'd have cleaned the shaft and put loctite on it maybe. However, I watch you do things that I wouldn't attempt and make work.

On a different note, watching some of the repairs you have done has given me the courage to really step up my game on engines and the like. I replaced cam bearings for the first time today on a 302.

When I'm in doubt, I've decided "Don't worry, have a beer" until I stop stressing small stuff while I work lol. The more horrible repairs I get away with the more confident I get about WHY they work.

  10. You couldn't pay me to own a 97 or newer Econoline with the Mod motor. Way too many issues and too expensive to fix. I've got a 96 E250 5.8L/E4OD. Mine the body is in worse shape then yours, but my frame is much better. I think you would have been much better off replacing the entire fuel system on your old Econoline. Much easier and cheaper to fix. Even if you tossed the EFI and converted it to a carb. The old push rod 351W V8's are so much simpler and cheaper to work on then those 4.6L/5.4L SOHC engines.
