In this episode Chris and Cameraman Adrian paint a black base coat on the BRZ. Chris later notices the paint is looking pretty rough because of a lack of prep work. Chris then returns with massive amounts of sanding power to redo the prep work starting at 220 grit and working up to 600 grit.

  1. That word you were looking for – yes, the English language has it – it's passion. 🙂 Good stuff, real proud of your learning curve, Chris!

  2. I got lucky and picked up a shop compressor its about 4.5'x8' i think its the same one Chris was talking about being what u need for a better gun I only paid $250 for mine tho because the shop owner just bought 2 brand new snap-on compressors

  3. Hey Chris, if you don't mind sharing, what kind of setup did Sherwin Williams recommend for that gun? I'm going to be doing something similar with paint this summer with my project car and it sounds like this gun is the one i'm looking for for my particular setup. My compressor isn't an oil compressor like yours, but it has a similar cfm (7 at 40 psi) so it sounds like this Eastwood gun might be the ticket. Any trouble shooting and configuring i can get out of the way prior to spraying test patterns would be a huge help. thanks!!

  4. quick question for painting experts , I want to repaint my car as the clear coat is fading , how much and what grits do I have to sand the car, I'm painting it with single stage paint so should I sand it down to bare metal and re prime or do I only need to sand it to factory primer before painting?? thank you

  5. The reason your atomization is poor is because the weather is too cold. Paint should be at room temperature when sprayed for best results. Try dunking the can in like 90 degree water prior to actually pouring it into the paintgun?

  6. also try and use 800 to 1500 grit sand paper to get those sanding scratches out of the paint. you can use a fome sanding block to make sure it's strait looking

  7. hey chris, first off I wanna say I live your channel. I also want to ad that I work in a body shop and we do color changes and those stupid pink Marry Kay cattilacs. we do not paint the whole vehicle at once. we will mask off and shoot the roof, engine bay and the jam for the trunk/lift gate. the we will paint the rest of it. mind you I take the doors, hood, trunk/lift gate off before so we only have to paint the quarters, door jams, fenders, bumpers and the side parts of the roof at that time. the paint job comes out so much better than if we were just to paint the whole thing at once. what I think you should do, to get a good looking paint job without any over spray is to mask off the car and only paint it in sections. do the roof first, then do the quarters and then piece other the roof that's attached to them. then you can do each doors, front fenders, trunk, hood and bumper all separate so that none of the car will have any over spray all over it and you only have to focus on the one panel you are staying at a time. it will eliminate a few of the problems you are having with getting everything a nice even cote of paint. give it a shot man, you can always paint it a 5th or 6th time lol

  8. Dunno why but I hate it when sb is repainting a car and not doing insides of the door, trunk and other shit. But understand you're doing it on a budget 😃

  9. Don't know if anyone has mentioned yet, but surely you will have problems with paint cracking and peeling around the edge of the spoiler if you are planning on using a flexible sealant.
