This 2009 Ford Escape came in for a second opinion after having the an inspection done at the Ford Dealer. The dealer recommend that the customer replace the brake master cylinder and the ABS control unit. During a test drive, we were unable to duplicate the concern. The main concern was a falling brake pedal while stopped. This suggested that there is a possible leaking master cylinder, the seals internally may be intermittently bypassing. The other possibility is an internal leak at the ABS control unit. Before we left the parking lot, we found that the rear wheels were locking up in low traction environments such as the parking lot gravel. During the lockup, I we observed that the ABS pump did not actuate. The rear drum brakes were inspected for the correct parts and correct installation. We also check the other shops work during the inspection. We had to choose that most likely cause of the lockup and the sinking pedal condition. Due to cost, we chose to replace the brake master cylinder as it was far less costly than a ABS hydraulic control unit.

Looks like you avoid talking about testing ABS functionality on the road after repair. You just show how you cruise and coast along. Also, avoid talking about whether the brake pedal still sinks after repair. Overall, sounds like you did not fix anything.
People trust the guy behind the desk at an autozone alot more than a dealership for a reason.
Greetings from England Ray, I started fixing cars as an engineering student 60 years ago. Post war cars were rubbish by today's standards. Rotted away in 3-4 years. A couple of things sprung to mind watching you replace the master cylinder. The pipe you disconnected got bent when you removed so will try to cross thread the coupling going back in the new one. Turn the end backwards until you feel the ends of male and female threads click as they pass then start to tighten by hand while pushing in. The other useful thing is , you mentioned brake fluid absorbs water which can cause cylinders to rust, silicone fluid is worth the expense if you run an oldie. I recently had to replace calipers and cylinders on my 1967 Triumph because of this.
Rainman – i noticed you have a new high-lift trans jack (blue one). What brand is that? Do you like it?
I think all the naysayers should open their own shops seem to be experts would be rich.
Drums maybe hardened making the shoes stick. Maybe lol
I dare these keyboard warriors to open their one shop if not work on your own pos and let us know if you had a good day 😁😂
Pick and choose what I'll learn from your video😅😂 8 or of 10😅😂 Rock on my friend
I’ve watched a lot of your videos and you are right on as far as I can tell. Keep up the good work sir.
You should wash your hands before getting into and taking any car for a drive. That was one thing we always did when I had my shop over 35 years ago.
You know what Ray you and I are so much alike we both have the same first name and we both act when we work on cars like we're rain man we always joke around while working on cars and then we forget things I have to go back and do it and then we can count things I don't know but you and I are a lot alike I just wish I lived closer to you to have you work and I work on my car
Hey always go with your experience screw what anyone says
like my dad use to say no matter what you do or how you do it some people will always say you did it wrong lol
Not sure why you wouldnt use Ford parts on a Ford.
Ray! Stop reading the comments. Who cares what those clowns say.
I turned wrenches for many years and watching your videos reminds of those times. They particularly remind me how glad I am to no longer do that! Thanks Rainman !
@30:53 what he said sounded so wrong…😂😂😂
Hey Ray, it looks like he got back most of the subscribers she lost!
Those who left were just bottom feeding trolls.
Keep up the good work, Ray!
Who cares whether it’s bled on the vehicle or on the bench it’s an inanimate object. It does not know the difference.
Do it how you want Ray and to hell with the rest.
The problem with dealer shops is that the technicians went to dealership school instead of mechanic school.
Dealerships have all lost their mind on price…they will help cause a whole new service industry to arrive.. good ridennce to dealerships.
When you road tested the vehicle in the beginning, did you experience any pedal sinking? My 2009 escape does exhibit pedal sinking but only in extended stop and go traffic. Brakes work perfectly otherwise but if I don't keep firm pressure on the pedal it has a tendency to creep forward and I might have to do a single pump to stop the roll. Any ideas?
I like watching the repair videos and learning new stuff! Had me laughing at the X-Files part!
In my job I did things a certain way because I tried other ways and learned the way that worked best.
24:00 blocking the holes makes the air escape into the reservoir when the plunger is cycled. I don't ask why because it's magic and science can't explain it
Dealerships are in the business of ripping people off. Do not carry your car to a dealership to get it fixed . If you do they will take you for all they can!
Ray would not be recording and working on cars if he was like all the rest of these dealerships he wouldn't feel good about what he does if he was like the rest and he does an excellent job
I don't see how a sane person can complain or dis like ray his wife anyone there when they are humble nice and not ripping people off when ray cut parts from a old conveyer belt for that truck I knew he didn't have to do that. Most every place wouldn't of done that you all know it
