  1. I bought the fake Allison and upgraded the tranny pan to the Banks that holds 13 qts and I noticed a difference for the better especially when towing our fifth wheel

  2. The OE oil pan is designed to keep a small amount of oil during oil changes.
That small amount in just enough to keep the pick-up tube mouth submerged and prime so the oil pump don't suck air on the first start after the oil change.
That's also the reason for the small bump in the oil pan right where the pick-up tube meets the button of the oil pan.
If you follow your maintenance schedule, that small amount of oil remaining is not in such an awful condition that it will contaminate the new oil.
It's funny how there is companies selling products that rely on people ignorance.
Not trying to offend anyone but there is a difference between what "you" think is better for your engine and what it is actually better front an engineering point of view.
Everything in this life is a balance between gaining and loosing and the engineers that build the engine decided that leaving that small amount of oil was less harmful than starving the oil pump for longer at first start after the oil change.

  3. I wish Banks would have sold me a cold air intake that didn't set codes on my RAM diesel within 5 miles. After looking up issues with the CAI I found they have been coming out with a fix for the problem "next month" since 2022.

  4. Damn, I should apply for a job at GM as an engineer I think Id knock it out of the park on oil pans.. My kid could have spotted that design flaw in the oil pan.

  5. PLASTIC skid plates?!? Wow way to go GM 🙄
Nothing say TOUGH like Tupperware LMAO my TRD-Pro has 1/4 aluminum full belly skid plates. GM says “nah plastic Mickey Mouse toy skids are fiiiine” 🤦🏻‍♂️

  6. I bought the Banks oil pan and transmission pan. I was going to do the oil pan myself but my truck a 2024 silverado 3500HD duramax dually high country will not fit into my garage. I don't have a flat place to do it. None of the shops around here Dayton Ohio area and I even called a few diesel repair shops in surrounding states, but none will install customer supplied parts. So if you know if any shops that would do the install near me let me know

  7. Hey Ray, I'll bet you were sore the next couple days after that! Good job! You won't do another one without a lift. I got tired of jack stands and working on the ground. 🙂

  8. Had you watched the Banks installation video before starting, you'd have seen all the pitfalls in advance of lowering the front axle. Plus the inclusion of the tool to start the pan separation. I've installed the Banks diff cover and the Banks transmission pan so far on my 2023 3500 Duramax/fake Allison when I installed the Project Carbon valve body upgrade kit. . I did it all on my back too. But, I had my truck up on my homemade 3" ramps under all the tires. Just the right height for working on the ground jobs.

  9. that kind of visual "flare effect" or halos are signs of cataracts, not astigmatism.

Ironically was in Florida visiting relatives and friends – one night out, doing the driving and boom!

halos every time with headlights – got cataract surgery shortly after that

  10. All this inter locking electronic crap are wobders to play with, YET when one function crashes, the entire mess has to be gone through and spend high dhop hours and repllaecrment parts are almost as bad as modern diesel rebuilds from modern engineering.
No thanks, will keep my 6.9/7.3/7.3 turbo diesels from Ford that I can work on without electronic degree.

  11. After watching this video and how much a professional mechanic had to really work at getting this installed (I've installed the Banks intake horn and down pipes… both a PITA doing it solo) I really don't know if I want to be mucking around with the oil pan. It looks like a full half to 3/4 day job without a full vehicle lift. Yikes. Knowing me, I probably still will because I'm a glutton for pain, but again, Yikes!

  12. Ray, as a retired heavy duty mechanic I have to ask. Why didn't you put those front wheels up on blocks, a ramp or something to give yourself some room. I have to say I couldn't or wouldn't have done that job with that truck in that position.
Well I'm not really a Chevy guy I would take your truck before this one any day of the week. Your truck will still be running when this one's in the tow yard because it's too expensive to fix. Give it 10 years 15 at the max. I've got a 1991 Ford F-150 lightning still rolling and looking primo

  13. I just replaced my oil pan with the same banks pan. It was a lot harder than I was expecting. The removal of the pan was the really hard. Had to go buy a couple different size pry bars. The worst part was. I pulled the front tires up on ramps. With that angle, more oil drained out. After I had the pan out. I only had a 1/4 of a quart left in the pan. Not at all worth all the work.

  14. High dollar truck. All kinds of "goodies" that can go wrong and cost a bunch to fix.
GM engineering at it's finest, again.
Banks: You pay for all those "little details".
Ray, you should be on our side, watching your face, putting that pan on. LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣
    "Sooooooooooo"?????
    Always nice to see Lauren.

  15. It's not a fake Allison. They designed it, they test it. GM just manufactures and assembles it. You understand that GM owned Allison for 80 years. You think they don't know how to build them after all that time? Fun fact, the Allison Transmission in your truck was built by GM in a GM factory (Baltimore).
