  1. @RainmanRaysRepairs , Hi Ray. You are on the right track with your system in the truck.
I would like to recommend this to help, A Renogy DCC50S DC to DC plus MPPT solar charger.
It is specifically designed for dual battery systems like an RV. But will be perfect for your system.
And you can put it in parallel with the golf cart contactor and use the contactor to run the inverters higher current than 50A but I wouldn't do that if you have solar panels connected to it.

BTW the proper NATO phonetic for the letter P is " Pappa"

The charge controller will automatically charge the AGM battery in the bed of the truck and also keep both batteries charged if you connect a solar panel system to it as well.
And if you add an renogy BT-2 bluetooth monitor you can use the Renogy app on your phone to monitor the batteries from the house.

I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty with a 280W solar panel on it and a 300ah LiFePo4 12v battery with the DCC50S and BT-2 for the last 2 years and it works great.
It is all automatic, when the DCC50S senses the truck system voltage is above 13.9 it knows the truck is running and charges both batteries.
This is better for the AGM as it will limit the charge current to the AGM to a max of 50A and also do float charging and equalizing charge as well.

Right now the only charging you have is the trucks two alternators that isn't controlled.
So if the AGM is low on charge and you have the truck running.
It looks like you are running 2awg cable from the truck to the golf cart contactor. I will guess that cable is about 12 feet.
You will be dumping up to 200A into that battery and exceeding the current capacity of that cable size at that length.
If it is 2awg and 12 feet long, Max I would run though it is 150A.
That is why I have 0awg running from my TIPM battery connection to my AUX power system.
My load is just my two way radios 70A and my box fan that is 10A at high speed.
And my 36V boost converter to charge my golf cart at 10A.

  2. Greetings: I have a similar setup on my truck …a 2nd (non OEM) electric system. I also have solar. I use a different alternator setup. (Also low RPM pulley and I modified the field drive circuit) Mine is not a Duramax. It is a TBI. I also have the 2nd idle function, however mine is only 1 idle option. I have 5 batteries (4 Grp 31 and a Grp 65 replacing the OEM) all switched in and out as needed. I lack the inverters as I do not need that much AC. However I repaired an old Bell South mobile unit that is capable of 48Kw. A bit heavy, obnoxious and a terrible current and real estate pig. I also have a pristine Kia / Hyundai battery unit. I have ideas 4 that however it is 4 sale 4 now. Good show. Thx 4 the share.

  3. Everything's cool except the fuel filter which is a high flow filter for engines with a lot larger tolerance for crap in the fuel and Banks merchandise, which is mostly worthless. Old 'pa is still trying to make money – which is good, but not at the expense of other folks. Why did you decide to switch to both from the OEM stuff?
Have been binge watching your channel, partner, thanks for the great content and a great sense of humor!

  4. P is Papa, and make sure you pronounce it "paPA." not "PApa." Ham radio operator and GM world class master technician here. Hats off to you for producing great videos and for your integrity and expertise, always enjoy watching someone else work while my own hands are clean.

  5. That power setup is ok but I would opt for a diesel generator in the 15-30 KW range and modify it to run on used moter oil. Cheaper, easier, and the fuel source is free and ample to you.

  6. Nice to show people that your charging system works. Not sure why you thought you had to prove it. It is a all basic wiring. It would be nice to amp clamp the positive wire going to your secondary batteries to see what type of amp flow you are getting @ full inverter load. The longer the wire the less amps flow. My guess is at full output power of the inverters you have, both naters won't keep up. However it will give you a descent amount of power for emergencies. So, nice job in trying to be prepared for the unforeseen. Many of us try to do the same here in NY as well. Up here many forms of backup heat and electric is what I try to have on hand.

  7. Well, whoever manufactured this part for GM should've made it from brass to begin with. As for owners, if you're not smart enough to know that plastic will break if over-torqued, you deserve what you got. When it comes to it, even if you're putting the right torque on the bleeder, it can fail due to heat cycles making it brittle. So in general, garbage parts. My $00.02.

  8. My only concern would be the cooling in the toolbox. I would imagine you are going to need ample air flow to keep the inverters from overheating. What are your plans to address that possible issue?

  9. 54:12 nope its not a waste of money. It would come in handy sevral ways and if you can find a mitilary type thats portable and runs off your trucks fuel at 240 volts you could run your houses hvac system. The truck would be good to run LED lights and a tv not sure what current rating the power strip is but i doubt its more then 20 amps. Enough to keep your fridg from letting food spoil. And lights on.

  10. 51:33 you could do an adreno Bluetooth switch to turn on the voltage switch wireless from the cab its low voltage draws about 1/4 amp. Just need a transmitter and reciver you might even be able to buy a matched pair also program it to your smart phone, and remotely monitor your power usage. Even do remote start on the truck and turn on the idel up system with your smart phone.

  11. I think the generator setup is genius. I would like to own a diesel truck, but I don't use it enough yet and the maintenance is high cost, plus that darned DEF. I really like all the other stuff you have done to your truck, like the @bankspower. I really enjoy your channel, I watch a video or two almost every day. I enjoy from time-to-time when you give a shop update.
