  1. I realize there was a lot of talk about replacing the engine. Maybe it needs one, maybe it doesn’t. At the very least we’re going to need a cam, the engine has to come out regardless, so it can be left open ended until more tear down can be done to determine the extent of the damage.

  2. A version of this system has been failing since the late 1970s v 4 6 8 caddy v8 engines I think they thought that people forgot about that disaster

  3. Dude, did you really just say pour 20w50 and trade it in? Ethically speaking you don’t do that and you don’t talk about doing that, especially when you’re posting it online to live there forever.
Also, came can be changed when the engine is in the vehicle. There are a ton of you tube university videos showing guys doing a cam swap and the motor is still in the vehicle.
My wife’s 2016 Yukon with 65k chewed up the cam, I reused the cam and changed the lifters and the car has run great the last 10,000 miles since I did it. I put a magnet on the filter, changed the oil 2 times in between the 10k miles an still no problems. Saying it needs a motor because you see metal in the filter, idk. I didn’t change my motor, and I don’t have any plans to in the near future.

  4. It's literally the same with processed foods, heinz does alot of different brands or should I say supermarket own brands and just slightly adjust heinz compared to own brands, soups the same and it is not just them. I live in Wigan and briefly worked at the factory

  5. This sort of failure with only 70K on it is absurd. I had over 460k kms (like 285K miles) on an 06 hemi and never had ANY engine issues. EGR and thermostat had to be replaced once but other than that the engine was awesome. Only got rid of it because it went through its second tranny and needed too much rust repair to safety. The engine was still nice and strong and got great mileage. I could to 850km (530 miles) on a single tank of gas on the highway

  6. I hate Key fobs like that my 2024 Ram has it and I hate the 3 honks after closing the door. Go back to regular keys auto makers! After all these years GM has done nothing to address the problem and why I would not buy a GM product after 2005. My Ram is a work truck I did not buy it and it has MDS that does the same thing, but with Rams its not as bad as GM killing the engines early on. I hate to hear myself even say this, but if I had to buy a new truck out of necessity I would get the Ford F-150 with the 5.0 Coyote it seems to be one of the few engines made today that might last 200k or more miles. That or a late model Toyota (OBS with V8) with low miles. I know this does not happen to every single GM engine, but it is wide spread and the odds are yours will fail so I just cannot purchase one knowing that I have a ticking time bomb under the hood regardless if I keep up maintenance. My Ram work trucks have been good with the 6.4l, but I have seen 2 of them in the fleet go down from lifter cam failure at 145k and 158k miles. The majority of our Rams make it to 200k on the 6.4l engines though so I suppose that is better odds than the GM L engines. Every time I see a video like this Ray it makes me want to keep my 2003 GMC Sierra and put a new engine in it and keep driving it.

  7. Love the videos Ray. (I know you know this) simply take the radiator out and it gives you plenty of clearance to swap the cam. I do these all the time. I agree if you swap the lifters you should swap the cam.

  8. Last year my neighbors ‘17 5.3 lost one lifter and caught it immediately. The cam was still good. They went ahead and replaced all the lifters in the passengers side. There’s also an updated AFM oiling solenoid bank that goes in the valley that was replaced. So far so good 10k miles later.

  9. I have a 2014 Yukon Denali and and 2016 Escalade, so an L94 and L86, my Escalade engine doesn't turn over, my question is, would I be able to use to parts from the Denali to repair the Escalade? OR would I be able to put the L94 in the Escalade? I'm wondering what choices are even possible and what you'd recommend? Thanks!

  10. Wiped out my 2012 SRT Challenger. Good news is after a year plus of driving with cylinder 5 misfiring, I traded it in for $13k and got me a '23 Hellcat Charger (which doesn't have DOD/AFM garbage!

  11. great work finding the problem. My 2012 silverado 5.3 AFM is deleted. been good so far about 70 K on it. new GM stuff is not very reliable these days. Buy older and restore them if you want one to keep for many years.
