In this video we have a look at a 2005 Dodge Neon that was towed in from another shop with the symptoms of a no crank, no start. It didn’t take long to find out that we could not communicate to the PCM. After a quick look at the PCI Bus we find the problem. -Enjoy!

I need help troubleshooting my wires on my Dodge Neon 2000 it has the 2.0 l motor in it PCM is a two plug PCM instead of the four plug I can't find wiring diagrams for the two plug PCM can you please help me
Binging again
I own a 2005 Neon SXT that appears to have shot ECM. Has a new TB kit, all 4 motor/trans mounts, new CPS & target magnet, IAT sensor, plugs, wires and coil. Was running great until 16 days ago when the engine bucked for 100 yards when doing 45 mph then ran normally sgayfor two miles. Parked after driving 1 mile to shop. Key dance showed P0038 Crank position sensor. Fired right up and drove 1 more miles before the bucking returned, this time was more violent. I put it in neutral to coast into a parking lot. Key dance still only showed P0038. Waited 30 minutes then tried starting the engine. It started yet ran horribly making noise of pinking-detonation. It died so checked for codes to still only see P0038. Called a mobile mechanic that scanned for codes before installing a new CKS. Said no other codes or data came up during the first scan and none after cranking w/ no start after the new sensor was installed. He left after confirming it was getting plenty of gas and spark so I took off the CPS to check the back. It had a long crack and seeped motor oil into the connector so all of the contacts were sitting in a puddle of oil. Replaced it and cleaned the connector out. Now it still cranks with no start with the code P0038 disappearing. Did the 10 flash self-diagnosis several times with no trouble codes showing up. A nearby shop said only the Dodge dealer and one other shop in town have the proper scanning and flashing equipment for Dodge Chrysler. So I called both to be told they don't mess with Neon's anymore. This video will help me checking things out further before ordering a refurbished ECM that's programed according to the car's VIN.
Hey it's really people like you and other people who help out people, for me very thankful. So I was going down the lit with you. This just happened to me today. I was trying to help my soon to be ex wife and figure out hear heating issues. We just got done replacing most of all air and intake plus Radiator, Thermostat. The thermostat worked but quite in less than a month. 2003 Dodge. Rented a compression kit because after auto Zone got home pooped hood, had radiator fluid coming out of reservoir. Had the tester in #1. Remove fuel fuses, and ignition fuses. UnHooked up battery. Was ready to start went to turn it over an forgot to place battery terminals back on. Turned the key, same garbage. Except parts of the under the hood fuse area had no power, couldn't keep an see where you were placing the wire into the connectors. I don't think I have power in the PMC. I am counting on you to figure this out. It's her daily work and running around weekend thinking she's 20 again. I had to give up after burping the car for a while and taking everything apart for the humpty Time, screw those car's. But I have to get it up working before she comes back Monday. Only if you could. Low compression. All signs I seen was worn out valves. And piston ring. She getting the Thick 4 cylinder Restore. Know much about tranny's. Mine started to hesitate 3-4 sec to 1st , about 2 sec for second. I need to get her car done. So I can get back to redoing my 1984 Honda Gyro 50nn MD. Scooter. Forgot Been replacing things she can afford. Never knew you should put your Brain on a charger to keep it going. Or have the person put it they're scanner gun and reboot the computer for higher charged battery, can do damage. I don't have special tool. She called me earlier, I told her she lost it. I have a black plague when it comes to working on rigs an now scooter. Please help me. Junk yards are closed around here. I'll have to grab anything off possibly eBay. I'm thinking water might have go into the fuze box, I don't have a garage, so had to use my patio umbrella between cars to work. Oh ya. Most of the fuze that box needed places r on one side . Stater relay box area no power.
Lots of good tips … audio was great but the video was glitchy/pixilated. May be due to video being old or something.
Thanks for the info.
A great video.

" Some ECMs it's just a failure to communicate "
Cue " civil war " tune.
Civil War
Song by Guns N' Roses
Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before
Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before
My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars
D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land
And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
Ow, oh no, no, no, no, no
Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more
My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
I don't need one more war
I don't need one more war
No, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
Whats civil 'bout war anyway?

I've had my '05 Neon for 12 1/2 years with no major problems (knock on wood). My parents bought it from Enterprise (yes, it's an ex-rental) in 2007, then signed the title over to me before my father passed away in 2011.
Mr. O, these are the best videos you make, but any of them are good and I enjoy watching them. I really enjoy watching you work through a problem like in this one. I am re-watching this one just because I'm looking at buying an Autel MS906BT to help with my own cars. I've also bought front axles and brakes for the wifes car due to your videos. I plan on making restitution for your time. Thanks for the vids, your skill and time in making the videos!!!
Are you using Pro demand to get that module diagram? Could you do a video on how you find some of the common information you use like this diagram? We have pro demand at work and i have tried to play around with it and find some of the stuff you use but came up empty.
Got a family hand me down Neon once. It broke almost every weekend. owned the car less than 6 months.
How would you check to see if the antitheft system is part of the remote keyless entry. It anyone know how to do so please let me know..thank you
Pcm outages are popular on chrysler vehicles
Where's the follow up?
Eric, surprised to see you charging the battery thru both posts.
When did cars become driving circuit boards???
You should look in to getting matte screen protectors for your tools. Would not only protect the screen from scratches and oil, but also eliminate glare while making videos.
Now you know how Chevy Chase felt, checking all those christmas light bulbs!
I think at least half of your work "comes from another shop." Short of trying to hire you directly, it's still the best compliment a man can get. Thanks Eric!!
HAD 97 NEON
NOTHING BUT LEAKS BREAKDOWNS
GLAD I JUNKED IT AFTER 20 YRS
ONLY HAD 167K ON IT WHEN I PARTED IT
You should get sma compressor stickers
Great video Eric O
Looks like a bad ecm
Now I talk like you when I'm working on my car… I'm not complaining!
What does your shirt say?
Holy shit Eric. 200K subs? Shit i remember when i was your 3000th odd subscriber. hahaha.
Great diagnosis, even if i am allergic to Chrysler! Catching up on the weeks SMA videos tonight.
I've always said Neons were disposable cars. Dirt cheap and built the same way. Drive it till it breaks, junk it, and buy another one.
vantage pro fixed ?
Drain the capacitor for 4hrs+ by unhooking the battery cables and ziptie them together..
got your vantage pro back booting then ….
diag wouldn't be the same without it .
Great videos, I see you are using an autel scan tool on many of your videos. What model is it? And is that what you would recommend to me to get. Our shop has a Snap-on modi’s. It showed a wiring diagram is that part of the tool or a separate option/software? Any help appreciated.
Interesting… this is a case where the other shop which had the car would have "fixed" the car by "throwing" a new computer in it… but after a month – they didn't.
I saw the title, and thought, hmm, no crank,no comm…I bet it's a bad TIPM. Lol
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m just a DIY’r. Can the ECM be programmed easily or does it require special equipment? Thanks.
Nice work Eric.
And here I thought I was going crazy and seeing things. On the Oct 5th live stream, Eric showed the Broken SO VP. Now it's back! Seemed to make it's debut reappearance at 14:20 of this video. Problem is he really don't know what was wrong, correct. And right now, he don't care cause it's working again. Darn electronic stuff. Lol. Better bring it up on your next WUW! LOL
