In August 2014, ISIS massacred hundreds of men who were part of the Yazidi religious minority and took an estimated 3,000 Yazidi women and children captive. “Escaping ISIS” delivered a stunning look at the plight of those women and children, and the efforts of people trying to help them escape.

As the documentary reported, before ISIS overran his town in Northern Iraq, Khalil al-Dakhi was a lawyer. When ISIS seized territory in Iraq and Syria and declared a caliphate, al-Dakhi formed an underground railroad to help rescue those women and children held by ISIS.

Aeida, a 21-year-old Yazidi woman who was abducted by ISIS along with her two young children, talked about being held in a home that ISIS had turned into a prison for captured women. “Some nights I can’t sleep until the early morning hours because of the nightmares,” she said.

The documentary followed al-Dakhi and his team as they undertook the dangerous work of getting women like Aeida out of ISIS’ territory. It also followed the efforts of a cell smuggling secretly-shot footage of ISIS’ treatment of women out of ISIS-held territory.

  1. peace will prevail. extremism will come to an end, like everything else does.

seems impossible with how much the cancer is spread, but anything is easy for God

  2. And Muslims believe Islam is a peaceful religion? How sick! How sad! Those poor men, women, and children! I can’t even fathom the rape that these baby girls go through! The fear! The nightmares! I’ll never serve Islamic god Allah! This is sickening!!! 😡😡

  3. It's crazy that they kill suspected gay men when so many of them like to watch young boys dress up like girls dance and then fight with each other about who's gonna get to rape him later!!! And besides that they don't want women to be able to go anywhere. If you look at Afghanistan today, it's like a gay man's paradise!!! And that's how they want it everywhere!! I'm sorry.
It's like a paradise for gay men and pedophiles.

  4. Funny how Frontline PBS sees Hamas through a different lense though because Hamas victims are Jews. Hamas, Palestinian Jihad, Isis, Al-Qaida, Boka Haram, are all the same animals with different names.

Incidentally the “Isis interpretation” of women and children captured in Jihad ARE considered “booty” and lawful to be used as sex slaves. This is Quaranic interpretation, not Isis’ Quran, THE QURAN!! Get that straight!!

  5. Not the point. But I wonder if every IS fighter was okay with this slavery.

If they objected I’m sure they would not speak up. And just because something in them may have objected doesn’t make them any less monstrous.

But I just wonder if it sat right in all their hearts.

  6. Imagine. Just IMAGINE. If all these BS churches in the US who collect millions from their parishioners put some of that money towards advancing these types of operations. Helping these literal freedom fighters. Rather than buying newer private jets and sending missionaries to countries that already believe in their god.

  7. Wow, what courage these people have! Thank you for making this documentary and showing the world what pure evil is!! How can a father stone his own daughter??! Slavery in the 21st century?? What have we become as human beings? Unbelievable how feeble the human mind is to be brainwashed…

  8. This man & his crew are modern day heros! God bless them & hope/pray that God will always look after them to keep rescuing their women & children!🙏🏾

  9. That’s not a god that’s the devil any person who uses god as a excuse to fully traumatize a 9 year old is corrupted, evil, disgusting and someone i wouldn’t mind if they where to never walk this earth again my heart truly goes out to the civilians in these countries it’s happening even America but not as severe as this. Just horrible

  10. I wish they would have clarified more about what ISIS believes and how they target Muslims that are not part of their corrupt interpretations of Islam to be non-Muslims. It seems to be generating a lot of confusion in the comments. Look at the Kurdish Muslims who fought against ISIS. Anyone not part of ISIS is fair game for them in their eyes, regardless of their faith or race. This includes Muslims living in western countries.

  11. 16:47 Muhammad is the model Muslim for all time . Not only in ancient times. His conduct is to be followed back then and today. But no true Muslim wants to admit this because of the crimes he's committed.

  12. I wish people could see the similarities in all 3 of the abrahamic religions. In America, it begins with indoctrination of an imposed belief system through societal pressure. Street gang's and Mexican cartel's are similar to ISIS.

  13. I just wish Frontline had the guts to say ISIS isn’t just “interpreting Islam a certain way” it is/was following the Quran and Hadiths to the last dot, it’s not just Yazidi women who can be taken as sex slaves it’s ALL non Muslim women

  14. I look at this man trying to reunite family separated by Isis as an Arabic Harriet Tubman. I know that they would do him great harm if he’s caught, but the true God of justice is not blind or asleep. May God guide and bless you on your dangerous journeys.

  15. Isis is totally delusional! They are living with a state of mind from bygone times. The people they are taking advantage of are unarmed, defenseless and uneducated. I am happy that this kind of undercover investigation was made to expose their wickedness, and heinous crimes against humanity!

  16. I try to understand Islam but the brutality and persecution of women and other religion in name of Allah is so unforgiving and hateful. It makes all Muslims seem like ignorant brutes, women and men alike. The enlightened Muslims are either frightened of the jihadists/ISIS/Talibans/Hamas and all others who resort to violence or are silently enabling these extremists. Where are the funding coming from for the guns and money to pay these extremists money for food, clothing and weapons?

  17. Yet you don’t see any of the so called Muslim scholar condemning these acts and trying to teach their fellow Muslim to steer away from such fundamentalist ideas. They would rather spend their time trying to downgrade Christianity and convert Christians to Islam. This shows you deep down they want the same system to prevail, they are just biding their time.
