mine drops vacumn at governed speed 90 mph… reservoir is in the right wheel well under the right fender pull the fender liner to access it
Highly interesting.
Good info.
Common problem with GM vans too. I’ve repaired every van in the fleet I’ve driven. So many that I keep all the parts on hand just because!
Do you ever give your mouth a short rest, there are people out here way smarter than you and they don't have the big head.
Only way AI can get remotely close to the human factor of diag is if it have a database of every possible issue that can ever happen and have the ability to cross reference that between different vehicles. Every vehicle would need some sort of sensor on every single component and still then it’s down to the clown holding the spanner not to screw up that’s if the AI has given a 100% error free diag. Joe blogs would also have to pay for specialist tools to carry out certain jobs so would cost a dam bit more than putting the car into a garage and at a hand of an experienced mechanic while more knowledge than an AI could ever have as AI can not think outside the box it can only relay info it has access too.
Oh the irony of ac not working on a ac maintenance van 😂
Was the long crank issue fixed also?
Awesome! I have an 89 Plymouth with a turbo. Whenever im on the throttle the hvac system pulls out of recirc mode. I wonder if this is a same situation!
Wait… The system wasn't working right… By design?
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
AI have no fingers… no nose… no eyes… it can only work with human input
you should have opened the on cabin filter and check that for a clogged filter…
Honestly for my company vehicle I have the same exact problem. And every time it's taken to the mechanic for the A/C not working under load, they tell me, "Your A/C is working just fine." Legit going to look into having this done when I go back in. AI will never replace experience. I am a DIY-er and experienced mechanics are my go to whenever I get stumped on something. Keep up the great work that you do. I learn something cool every time.
So did Ford have a vac canister from the factory and someone took it off?
Hey Ray, on a lot of these E series (at least I know on all the e450's i work on), there will be a reservoir under the battery tray. Its actually a fair amount of space to install a aftermarket reservoir if needed as well.
Hi Ray,
If it's an original A/C, was a reservoir not fitted?
Youtuber AvE does that too using unnecessary tools to open a box
what? no comparison after the installation with the gauge? booo
Most the vacuum leaks I found on the older GM or Fords were due to the cheap plastic lines breaking down over age and colapsing.
So that AC system never worked right when it was new? It was designed without a vac reservoir?
Nice neat vacuum reservoir installation with "couldn't do without" fastener invention…. the zip tie!
I hated doing those reservoirs. Seems like nobody wanted to do them and i got stuck with them..dont miss that
Thank you Ray, I have a 2013 E-150 Van with the smallest V-8 that is in a Ford E-150 Van and I have the exact problem with my Air Conditioner I also have had to replace the flapper door on the rear Heater/Air conditioner. The plastic tit that the door hinges on breaks with only one or two uses. So now I can have my local Mechanic repair the Front Heater/Air Conditioner. I was wondering if there is a replacement part for the Rear System that is more durable? The cost of the cheaply made FOMOCO part has been costing me $70.00 for a plastic flapper door with a really thin foam rubber seal. Thank you for any information you can provide without getting into trouble. I have been learning so much from your videos and find them entertaining as well as informative.
Cars in the 70s had what looked like juice cans with a vacuum port mounted under the hood for this purpose.
it looks to be about 16 oz volume, it is surprising that small of a volume fixes that issue
to maintain vacuum in the system, good thing it does not have vacuum driven wipers! :-}
not all Fords. My 2012 expedition isn't
I just had the joy and hip pocket nerve pain when the AC in my 2009 Holden Commodore SS failed. The Evaporator expired in a cloud of refrigerant 3 days before a 38C weekend was forecast, The repair involved removing the entire dash! But it is nice and chilly now. I also fitted a GM revised compressor bracket to the LS3 engine
I did this job on a friend's E250 about a year ago I had to remove the battery to get to the reservoir, also replaced the fan speed resistor that was roached!
Every Ford E series van I drove with a V8 had this issue. Never fixed it, figured it was a vacuum leak or something. once the engine was not under a heavy load the air would blow from the vents.
Virtual reality is for people who cant face reality……LOSERS love virtual reality
Just like the 57 wagon vacuum windshield wipers. Speed up wipers slow and then let off the accelerator speedy wipers.
My question is, you've established that the supply check valve is functioning properly, (via no bleed down under acceleration), then why is it mirroring the manifold vacuum in the cabin..? does the door actuators (diaphragm cans) have a controlled leak that would bleed off the vacuum that's already stored in the system..?
AI is programmed by clever people, who are good at programming, but won't necessarily know about the subject they are programming. Even an experienced technician like Ray, could not sit and recount all his knowledge, so AI programming will have holes. Humans have memory, and as a problem occurs, we remember how it was fixed last time, or of a similar issue. AI won't have that.
But, real intelligence is often in short supply, so in simple situations, AI may have the upper hand. Sadly, that perpetuates low intelligence levels, by removing the need to learn and remember. Makes those like Ray even more valuable, but a crisis may be looming as the knowledgeable ones get older.
Before the printing press, knowledge and wisdom was passed down through generations, so was learnt. With printed matter, it can be read, but knowledge does not equate to skills.
AI will never be a match for real stupidity.
What happened to the factory reservoir?
crazy, that local radio station is 104.3, my local is 103.4
This goes straight to something my high school auto tech instructor said once. A technician's worst enemy is the guy that worked on the car before you. Whoever routed that new vacuum line is the one that caused this problem in the first place.
Virtual Reality evolves. It does so by having people like you be testers and provide feedback. That is how all technology has become what it has. When it doesn't work well or falls short feedback, updates and revisions make it better over time. You are right the initial ones will probably fall short but the more mechanics use the better it will get.
An alarmingly low number of mechanics would take the time and effort to install that fancy empty bottle.
It ain't pretty but it works.
Why use vacuum? Isn't it easier and more reliable the wire system?
