In this video I show you the process I use to diagnose the HVAC unit on a GMC Acadia. The customer complaint is that it blows HOT air on the driver side vents and cold air on the passenger side vents.

  1. False,..he actuator It does not control the temperature only rather the position of the blower… changed it and it now controls the dampers but it keeps blowing hot air…ouch

  2. Hey Eric.
I see this video is a couple years old. I have the exact same problem only my passenger side is hot.
I’m an engineer not a mechanic so I think I can fix anything but don’t have any of the fancy tools. So I couldn’t test anything so I just replaced the actuator furthest from the center. But it didn’t make any difference. The heat is still super hot on that side.
What else could it be if it’s not the actuators??

  3. I had this problem and fixed it myself by doing a reset. turns out it was just the computer confused and had the blender door stuck, after reset , had to do it a few times (5 times) it now works better than ever. saved myself hundreds. Thank you YouTube

  4. Hey! I was looking for guidance on this matter, thanks for the good explanation! I think I can do it by myself, Lol! following from Mexico 🙂

  5. I just repaired my A/C automatic blend motor assembly by disassembling the unit, inspected the gears, inspected the large final drive gear and its copper fingers that slide on the variable resistor pad. I put more tension on the copper fingers and used the surplus lube from inside and applied it to the gears. Reinstalled the unit and started my 2012 GMC Sierra with the A/C on, varied the temp setting cold to hot and back again, IT WORKS! Just my time and no parts.

  6. Great video. Thank you!!!👌to anyone that has a similar issue, I replaced the actuator at first but it wasn't working, (doesn't matter drivers or passenger side same thing.) but my driver side was only stuck on hot. After I replaced it, it really didn't do much. I don't have the fancy machine so I had to recalibrate the temperature manually, you have to set the temperature to either hot or cold, (see the actuator turn) I set it to cold so now the electrics/actuator is set to cold. Now have to manually turn the thermostat all the way to cold so this way the electric actuator and the thermostat are aligned together to cold. From there I couldn't get the actuator to sit nicely to screw in so I turned the temp up on the dash a little until the screw holes lined up. The point of these instructions is so you don't ruin your new actuator by turning it manually and to calibrate it. Lastly I unplugged the 15 Amp HVAC fuse under passenger side to recalibrate it that way as well.

  7. I like your videos very much but this one was definitely a waste of time and money. 20 minutes and a 12 dollar part off of amazon very common problem I just did mine on my buick enclave

  8. In my days, we had a Mr. Wizzard for learning things that were interesting, and aided in some school work. Now we have you to make up for this.. Education and logic, so much of that GOOD logic board that you posessis.. Thank you for that and your humor a great addition for we seniors.. Mrs. "O" adds so much to the enviorment…of SMAR Thanks again for the education and humor.. Alan

  9. My 05 Buick Terrazas side actuator is missing something right by its left side. The passenger side does not blow hot air as well as the middle right side. What do I do?

  10. 07 buick lucerne drivers side Luke warm/cool passenger side ice cold do you think my Actuator is bad . Need a video of changing one of these on the buick lucerne lol

  11. Good video. I have the identical problem in my 2011 Buick EnClave. At 60 degrees cold on passenger side and hot on drive side. I am 72 yrs old so crawling under the dash is to difficult for me. Took the car into my Buick dealer. There diagnostic came up with three error codes. They replaced the blend door Activator on the passenger side. That eliminated two of the Error codes. The mechanic now is suggesting Pulling the HVAC head or controller and check the circuitry in that. If that needs to be replaced it is a $300 plus part. Could you give me some advice on this matter. Thanks for your informative video.

  12. Thank you for this. We just got my girlfriend’s 2011 GMC Acadia back from having the dealership work on the “transmission shifter module assembly” because the gear shift wouldn’t shift all the way into park, release the trigger on the gear shift knob, and let you turn the key all the way off and take it out of the ignition (a video on how to fix this problem without having to take it to the dealership next time would be glorious).
The vehicle was/is also having the exact problem you solved in this* video, but after the dealership told us, “…for the ac concern, the ac compressor is locked up and rear evap is leaking so both need to be replaced, cost of this repair is $2,516.81,” we told them to hold off on messing with the AC. I personally can’t afford an arm, leg, left testicle, and first-born child to “fix” the ac compressor when the passenger side blows cold air just fine. I think I’ll just order a $77 AC Delco or certified original GM parts actuator and see if that doesn’t just fix the problem.
Much appreciated; keep up the good work!

  13. Got a 2012 traverse I'm looking at right now. I'm a Toyota tech but I like to learn knew systems, especially lately. I have codes for left door, right door and recirculation motor! Another tech looked at it and tried the HVAC control with no success. I'm looking at the diagram tonight and gonna do some testing tomorrow, but I think he got fooled on the no command from module due to the codes being set. Anyway thx for the video you always make it look really easy when honestly modern electrical systems can throw a lot of ppl through a loop, including me! If they are actually trying to read a diagram and diagnose that is. Great vid as always. Making hard stuff simple and to the point. Keep up the good work bruh.

  14. I've changed all 4 blend door actuators on my 2017 acadia and the driver's side is still blowing warm. Cold on passenger side. 30 psi refrigerant on low pressure line. Am i suppose to get them calibrated?. Everything is still working the same as before i replaced them

  15. I have a 2011 gmc acadia denali-bought used. Ive already did alot of repairs-never taken care of b4. My ac does opposite-dr side cold-passenger hot. Its going bk to garage again to be ckd. Thank you
