  1. Ray, in that SUV you need to recline the seatback 45 degrees back so everyone can see your "Gangsta Lean", as it's referred to in Brooklyn 😀

  2. I would use a variac power supply to try and bring those batteries back you just have to keep an eye on the voltage to keep from over-charging them.

  3. I have one of those batteries that the positive pin is messed up but the battery is perfect, tried to disassemble the case but it won’t come out 😞 and of course- it’s just outside warranty

  4. Get a variable power supply and hook it to the positive and negative outputs of the battery and slowly start bringing the voltage up, keeping the current less than 500 mA. Once it's close to norm, the regular charger can take over and top it off. It helps if you have a power supply with current limiting, otherwise you have to babysit the current meter and make sure the current doesn't go over. Did it before to some Millwakee batteries that were "dead" and charger would not accept them, but after treating them to a backfed charge like this, they are happy and fine. $5 a battery, sucha deal!

  5. 1) There is a BigClive video about low charge Li-Ion batteries. IIRC, when the voltage drops low, one of the chemicals turns into crystalline form, and as a sharp crystal, can puncture / rupture the separator layer between the positive chemical and the negative chemical…
Thus on a future recharge, an internal direct short can manifest, which can lead to one of those explosive fires….
    2) On a YouTube comment somewhere about a 20V/60V tool battery, the commenter suggested that one set of +/- was in serial (60V ?) and the other set of +/- was in parallel (20V ?). Have not verified (and it may be specific to that manufacturer), but it made some sense in my head.

  6. Ray ,did you try leaving the dead battery in charger and plugging and un plugging a bunch of times ?, eventually it might be able to except the charge , giving a few microns at a time till charger says its ok , works for me on other chargers

  7. Rainman Ray Frankenstein. I’m always blown away with some of the crazy fixes you invent and they work. It’s a learning experience. For the non dead battery, you can finally say It’s…ALIVE!! All you need now is someone to be your Igor.

  8. It sure is nice seeing people running aluminum heads with no exhaust manifolds. I just get a great big smile. If you ever get a chance to see a jackass do that, watch it till the end.

  9. Unless you absolutely know what you're doing and it's your profession or within your skillset, don't do it yourself. Set the money aside to have it done professionally or get a replacement. In this economy it's going to be expensive either way.

  10. Good segment on trying to boost the 14.4 snap on batteries to save them similar to jumping a 12 v car battery just enough that the charger will start to charge it dang smart chargers @Rainman Ray's Repairs

  11. Exhaust manifold bolts breaking on these 6.8l V10 are very common I have had to do this on my own excursion 2 times and it's a 2005 as well as have done it on hundreds of customer Vehicles and I'm IN arizona don't matter what state your in common failure @Rainman Ray's Repairs

  12. that's not just a no-go engine, that's a full on fail that needs to go onto one of those "wacky stuff mechanics find" other channels 😛 I have a bat pack in a similar situation…it won't take any sort of charge at all, and probably has to be pitched

  13. You'd likely have to put that head on a milling machine and use an centre cutting end mill to eat away at what's left of those studs, and make a custom oversized one for that fucked hole, not something a normal mechanic's place can do really, that's specialised head repair work at this point.

  14. If those are lithium batteries, it's really not a good idea to "rescue" them if any of the cells has ever gone below the "never go below" voltage. That way lies flames and running and yelling…

  15. This is why the new so called smart chargers of today for automotive batteries suck. I have a smart charger and it won't attempt to charge a completely dead lead acid battery. Pull out the Schumacher with auto or manual charge set it to manual and it will still send power to the battery. I usually charge @ 2 amps a few hours, then when the battery starts to show a draw switch it to auto. However my newer charger I wasn't aware at the time would not attempt to charge a completely depleted battery. Luckily I did not condemn the battery without pulling out my old charger. My $.02.

  16. Dude that was fucked up to bring that in like that. V-10 NO exhaust had to be cool but man i cracked off my exhaust manifold bolts. Not fun. Then to take over a failure. No!

  17. I'm at 4m 53,sec. in. If those parts could talk, they might report the following convo:
"Hey, this repair isn't so bad."
"Really? You snapped some of the bolts off…"
"That's nothing a little welding won't fix. I already started on that, as a matter of fact. Be good as new in no time."
"Gimme those keys!" (Keys get snatched up,) "gonna take this time to someone who knows what they're doing!"
This is just a theory, guys… Just a theory.

  18. Ray, your videos started popping up on my recommended section. I now can't stop watching them. I literally have binged your videos the last three days since i first saw it. You are a good and decent human being. I am sure you are exactly the same off video as you are on video. Keep doing great work and helping out the customers by doing the right thing! I will keep watching.

  19. I myself have messed up a job and found myself deep in it. I also took it to my mechanic and had him fix it. But, I never trashed it so bad he couldn't fix it without a major work. I knew when to stop and let the professional handle it.

  20. Back in my younger days when I worked in the engineering department of an aviation component manufacturing company, I broke a bottoming tap in the engine case of my Honda motorcycle. "Take it up to old so-and-so in the chemistry department" is what I was told. I promptly did so and was told to leave the part and come back after lunch. Upon return, the broken tap was all cleared out and the threads in the aluminum case hadn't been touched. "How did you do it", I asked. The answer was "Simple, a little acid poured down the threaded hole, waited an hour or so, and dumped out the dissolved contents." Apparently the acid dissolved the steel of the tap but didn't touch the aluminum. To this day, I'm not positive but I think he said "hydrochloric". So in this case all Ray needs to do is to roll the vehicle over on it side and pour some hydrochloric acid into the holes. Rinse and Repeat.
