Google has never launched a high-end streaming box before. Up until now, we’ve had Chromecast dongles of varying levels of power, but nothing that would even come close to something like a Roku Ultra, Apple TV 4K, or NVIDIA Shield. Now, though, we have the Google TV Streamer, the company’s first attempt at a high-end streaming box. How does it stack up?

  1. I currently run 2 Firestick 4k units for an old TV and the theatre projector, I wanted the Google only for the purchased content in my Google account but at the time the Chrome cast was not the best so got the Amazon version.

That's soon to be upgrade for this and will pass the other off to another area or site

  2. I've just bought a Google Streamer. It was to replace a Roku (NOW TV) streaming stick. The Google Streamer is so much better. Searches every app for content. Runs snappy, with minimal lag. Best streamer I've ever used. And I only paid £49, as I had a £50 promo code from Google. Very happy with my purchase 😊

  3. Some people dont want all the bs i really enjoyed the early chromecast i use my phone to select what i wanna watch typing en swiping is 10 times more comfortable then using a remote ……

I wished they just sell a simple variant for simple people like me……

  4. Only takes like 4 hours and $180 in Australia. The old cromecast takes 60 seconds and $20 the person who put this together. Should be working at McDonald's selling French fries. Also netflix charge double the money to use it

  5. 0:22 BS, they ended the Chromecast because no-one would buy the streamer if it was an option. You're BT being blocked by a TV is BS too. It's not 2005. This is just a sales pitch.

  6. Researching this as my Chromecast becomes an 'untrusted device'. So Google is forcing people to buy this eventually if they still want to cast their youtube from their phones to TV

  7. Need a better experience than my Amazon Firestick – also it’s increasing restrictions on various third-party apps – not a fan; where does Google stand on side-loading these and does allow it the install of VPN software? if the answers are positive, I now found my new streaming device, brilliant content and delivery, thank you, much appreciated, you got yourself a new subscriber❤

  8. 10:09 but…. it's $99….. I'd pay $30 just to upgrade the plastic remote to Apple TV's aluminum. Plus better hardware in the Apple? There's no way this is a smart buy. I really hate Apple as a company but this value proposition isn't great for Google or its ecosystem.

  9. I have the old Chrome cast with Google TV and have bought the Google streamer for my brother for Christmas. I don't really see much difference for double the price. Ok Mine is only HD and Google streamer is 4k, but not big deal for a HD only TV anyway. Both work really well.

  10. The NVIDIA shield is 6 years old and doesn't support AV1 and runs Android 9. It's the Jurassic Park of streaming devices so I don't see why, if having to choose today, anyone would still buy the NVIDIA Shield.

  11. Replaced my 1st gen chromecast stick with this. It streams audio on my excellent pixel buds pro. That alone is worth a lot. Really good product
