Honda Civic – Missing Cam Signal – Sensors Already Replaced

In this video I have a look at this 2018 Honda Civic with the big 2.0 that was dropped off from another shop with an engine light on and a P0340 and a P0344 that won’t go away. The shop replaced both cam sensors and the code came right back. At this point they asked me to have a look and see what we can do.
-Enjoy!

  1. I know you hate doing resistance check by believing it is not a reliable way to find trouble wire. However this prove the exact opposite. You would have found it just doing a simple resistance check between the cam connector and PCM.

  2. my friend had a honda with the same issue they were 2 different sensors one for intake side one for exhaust side replaced them car ran worse gave up went and bought something else that ended up with other issues but were more mechanical in nature and easily fixed albeit still a pain in the rear

  3. All this time, all this technology, and still we rely on vacumm. What a mix. Love watching your channel. You have filled the "vacumm" for me left from "Click and Clack" 😅

  4. I really liked this video. It was very helpful as in working on a 17 civic with similar issue. Your short mention of products, description, and thoughts on them was perfect. Not to long but honest info. Thank you sir!!!

  5. I dont understand for a second why anyone that lives within an hour or so from Avoca NY would have anyone but Eric do ANYTHING on their vehicle. I'm 78, and I do mostly all my own work, and have done for about 60 years, but I wouldn't if I was anywhere near him.

  6. Just a thought , if you had used a loaded test flight to verify the three wires of the harness it should have showed up as a dim or no light. Yes you would have to provide a external fused power supply but is that really all that big a deal? Love the videos and that you are showing real world real time diag.

  7. Haven't seen or heard Luna in a while, she is probably staying in the office with Mrs. O. where it is warm and dry. You never know what the cause of the problem is, you have to check every possibility of what you think it might be. Good find Eric Holmes, another HAPPY customer that will sing praises of SMA of PRNY success !!!! A new dress for Mrs. O. !!! 💃👗

  8. 10 minutes… folks, always wiggle those wires while looking at the scope… the guys at the shop probably yanked at the wires, someone did, and the japs did use thin shhtty copper inside…just to save another cent, shameful thin coppers i see in lots of cars now, scary.

  9. Not sure of the mileage BUT at 100,000 miles there is a valve clearance adjustment to be performed on the 2.0L & it requires the removal of the intake, various harnesses & resealing it.
I'm wondering if a dealership has been into it 🤔

  10. I ask people.
How do you know its a bad coil or sensor?
O…i got it diagnosis by the parts place.
Ok…how did they determine its a bad coil? Did they remove it and tested it?
O…they scanned it for codes and they said its bad.
U huh…but you are going to throw $300.00 plus tax at a set of coils.
What are you going to do if that doesn't work?
Hmm…i will tell them they sold me a set of bad coils..
Ok…and how are you going to determine that?
