A consortium of news outlets from around the world, including FRONTLINE, has been investigating the use of the spyware called Pegasus and the Israeli company, NSO Group, that sells it to foreign governments. Pegasus has been used by NSO clients to spy on journalists, human rights activists and others. One target: Jamal Khashoggi’s fiancée.

The investigation is coordinated by the journalism nonprofit Forbidden Stories, with technical support from Amnesty International’s Security Lab.

Washington Post reporter Dana Priest is one of more than 80 journalists from 17 media organizations working on the collaboration, known as “The Pegasus Project.” She traveled to Turkey to verify if Pegasus had been used to surveil Khashoggi’s fiancée, Hatice Cengiz. NSO Group says its spyware is used to fight terrorism and serious crimes, and that its technology was not associated in any way with Khashoggi’s murder.

This reporting is part of an upcoming FRONTLINE documentary produced with Forbidden Stories to air on PBS.

  1. It is shocking that this Israeli company uses the pretext of terrorism to spy on citizens, yet they failed to anticipate the events of October 7th

  2. I would like to have my phone checked! It's been infected for two and half years. I can tell you what it is doing on my Android. There is no good reason for law enforcement to use it against me. It started with private security then they proceeded to slander me to everyone I came in contact with. It's simply a revenge tool. A kind of dangerous control mechanism by those who can feign plausible deniability. And this is just one of the invasions done to me!

Let's not ever forget that everyone can be a target of mass surveillance since George W. Bush and Congress gave 6:31 NSA and Homeland Security carte blanche with PRISM, InfraGuard, FBI Fusion Centers.

  3. Which governments have bought this spyware ? Can you tell who is using it to what purpose ? Ask the manufacturer who they sold it to and when ? Does it need to be updated ? Does it still function after being detected ?

  4. It’s funny over more than thousands of people dies by firearms in America and everyone would blame the shooters but israel sold a spyware then it is Israel fault if the jammal whatever got wacked 😂😂😂 that double standard is very funny

  5. I got pulled over while test driving a vehicle earlier this year. I was detained for 3 hours while local law enforcement tossed the vehicle. During this time I was separated from my belongings immediately before being “detained” in the cruiser. This included my iPhone. Ever since that day in march my phone was never the same. With the most recent update for iOS it was brought to my attention that Pegasus is in fact on my phone and there is a page in the app that has a current campaign. I can’t dig much further into the perimeters of the app. BC I don’t have an account. So if I don’t have an account how is there a campaign running on my phone? And is it possible that when I saw these cops take my phone to the back of the Sargent’s vehicle that’s when it was loaded into my iOS? I haven’t deleted the app bc I want to preserve any evidence that may still be there. For instance if I can pinpoint the exact time / date the app appeared. And that time is while I’m documented NOT in possession of the phone then I’m hoping I’ll have a leg to stand on for some answers

  6. Hatice must have suffered a tortuous ordeal that surely must have extended in the late hours of night leaving rotting body. The burial and funeral services was paid by St Marys cathedral so kudos to them. This woman, Hatice should greatly be admired for her lookalike role model that she prepared this Monday and all of the affluent catholics who are the recipients of Mary's holy spirit

  7. I knew this was something to do with Israel because all of the demonic action comes from there I can’t believe I was already typing this message before they brought it up, unbelievable

  8. Oh dear God!!! This woman helped to lead him into their trap! She was assigned way before she met him! Her meeting him was no accident, it was all calculated and she was very much in on it! The moment he went back to Turkey to get married everyone knew what's about to happen to him! They used the oldest trick in the book to get him where they want him and he fell for it!

  9. I think it's possible they use a variant of this system for "first responders". There is definitely abuse of it too. Unfortunately, requests for help yield unfruitful results
