In this video I have a look at a customers Chevy Impala that came in with the CEL on and a P0449 and a P0455. These are both really common codes to see on this vintage GM. A couple of quick checks and we know what the issue is!

You're great at camera working lighting. But the extra comments, like the fact that this breaks easy, is really
Exceptional work
I like the repeats. I learn something regardless of whether I have seen it before. Keep up the good work Sir!
In the military we call that training our relief.
Good to see you mentoring someone.
Okay I'm learnin'… SMA videos have inspired me to learn more about automotive electronics so I started simple and picked up the Hayne's Techbook (yes, I know its a bit dated…). I've noticed that Eric frequently uses the bi-directional testing on the scan tool. This is a good video because he addresses how to test a solenoid without that capability by checking resistance of the component itself.
I went and did the math so I could understand how it works. I made the assumption that the PCM is giving it 12v because… cars. Eric gives us the value of the good solenoid of 20 ohms. That means it draws .6A of current. Use of the test light here is OK because it's current draw is less than that. If the bad solenoid is showing .8 megaohms (or 800,000 ohms) then it would draw .000015A of current. Is that right? I am still wrapping my head around why the solenoid would develop high resistance. It must be some kind of failure… heat, chemical, mechanical…
How would one find out the acceptable resistance of a component without having a new component to compare it to? I looked up the OEM solenoid valve from the video and specs don't include a load value.
How to discern if component is simple like a solenoid or more complicated (like those that run off of 'high' and 'low' voltages from a CAN system or pulse width modulation)? I am still trying to make sense of it all.
Great videos, thanks. Time to get to bed and off to work…
What for scanner do you have?
Which autel tool do you have?
just bought an 07 Grand Prix supercharged, baby. Has classic 449 I need to take care of. What a fun little rustbucket!!
Is the 1.5v for the tank pressure at idle or switch on ? Great video as always
It's great that you're giving back to the community through working with the high school kids. Great job!
Hope your tetanus shot is up to date working on these rusty rigs! 😂 Love the content!
Appreciate you also showing old school diag with the OHM meter.
Thank you for the video my friend. Does it matter whether you leave the evap on or off when you're done working on it? I know..stupid question lol
I wish you guys all the best for the new year🎉
Too bad we don't have a repair shop as honest and knowledgeable as you in
Rochester
Enjoy every one of your videos! Repeats or not!
I guess I'll have to drive my c5 corvette by you once the weather is better. I've had evap code for about a year. 3 different places replaced some evap stuff , and it still comes back 😂.
I like your repeats. â¤â¤â¤â¤
Hey Eric O what scanner are you using?
Nice work Eric! Great opportunity for any high schooler learning from the best 😀
Nothing like learning from the master Tech. McCoy should count himself lucky that he gets to learn from you.
I worked at a Transmission / Auto Repair Shop after school ( 16yrs age ) took 4 yrs all shop classes myself. Glad those programs are around. Not in my area though,
A little Chris Fix shout-out there, I see. 😅
I admit to not removing the old brackets and quadruple zip-ties holding them to the rusted out bracket….
yeah, HACK work on rusted trash NY threw out well before, why should I bother on something that will be trashed in a few months or 6. 🤣
"GIMPala", one of my joke names for them. 🤣🤣
also to note, if the charcoal cannister isn't plugged yet, it will be very soon after 120K area. lol
Excellent short video on a common problem. Great job on the "intern"! Eric is the all-around neighborhood hero! Fixing everything under the sun, and teaching our youth how to survive in the world of AUTO MECHANICS!
He PROVES "If I can do it, YOU, can do it!"
On Kia’s I’ve had the same circuit code but ended up being the canister being clogged the problem
ðŸ‘
If McCoy's name means anything he'll have your "Engineering Dept" in tip-top shape in no time! You will have to have him speak in a Scottish accent!
You forgot "not a spaansor" lol
Nice to see you showing McCoy the ropes and giving him the benefit of your guidance!
Hey Eric, My Question is, do you use the Autel MaxiCom 908 II? Will that scanner plug directly into the Vehicle DIN, or is just for WiFi use? I see you use your Autel quite a bit, it looks like an efficient scanner. I'm in the market & just wondered what you thought of it. Thanks for your time Brother. Love ALL your videos. I'm a 30 year Auto Mechanic. Keep them videos comin' man, Love the Diagnostic vids.😉🇺🇸ðŸ»
Andy would make a good hood prop..
Best internship ever!
Does the vent on valves of this type close full on/off? Will slight blowing into the valve while actuating it give a on/off indication? Can the valve have a bad seat and leak slightly? Will blowing into either side be an ok test to see if the seat is sealing? Will blowing from the wrong direction lift the seat? Asking because…no tool guy here on a 2003 Camry with a P0442. Evap valve clipped on intake elbow will leak slightly if I blow in one direction but no leak the other direction.
Thanks for helping our youth!!!
Eric, Happy new year brother wish u and family the best of 2024 and abought repeating i do not mined watching ur videos more than one time this will refresh my memory even better and what a lucky Mr. MYCOY is to be learning from you as a mentor/teacher. cheeeeeers
Is that the real McCoy?
