17:45 "frequency" to replace "amplitude." You're a STUD, Eric O! Careful review showed either pulse 1 or pulse 58 width is Slightly wider (few msec?) before or immediately after the gap on old/defective/generic/non-OEM sensor and the Mopar sensor those pulses are EXACTLY the same width in msec as all of the other 56 in between gaps. Once crank doesn't match cam sensor computer locks out until next "key-off" cycle then resets…i.e. cannot restart immediately with key in.

P0339 here on the wife's 2016 Compass, 114k miles. I just bought a Crankshaft sensor from CarQuest, and based on this video am going to go get one from the dealership and put that in instead. When getting to it isn't easy, I don't want to do it twice.
Hey Mr. O, I just looked down and saw that this video is already 3yrs old. But just as relevant today. I still have my Cheap heap Compass and she's my baby. A little workhorse, but I have the same problem. It died coming home from work, at a stop light, and chugged all the way home. I am waiting for the sensor part which I had no problem removing. All in all, greetings from NW Missouri. I have been following your YouTube channel for years and deeply appreciate you sharing your videos on Jeep repair.

Just replaced one on on a 2010 that had 141000 miles on it. Used the OEM as well. Glad to see channels like this. Super helpful and saved a ton of cash. Thanks.

Hey Eric. My neighbor has a 2016 Patriot and she has a traction light on, limp mode and money light on. I removed the throttle body and cleaned it really good. Used my odb2 scanner on it and it gas a P000B DTC. I don't have a fancy scanner to look at wave forms or 5volt reference. What do you think needs to be done? I am a DIYer. Thanks

I did exactly the same thing, Car was good for about three days, then the issue came back.
I played around with the crank sensor wiring, found out that I could get a stall to happen jiggling the wiring, right where the crank sensor wire came out of the connection.
I am the original owner of the car, had not altered the wiring in anyway.
When I opened up the wiring, I found a factory installed connection that had failed.
Three new connections, haven’t had any issues for over a month, we have had this going on and off for about a year and a half.
My dauter has a 2016 Jeep patriot. It has had the same issues, and she was afraid to drive it. It would die and start right up. Your video helped me to get the Jeep back and running. Works fantastic now.
I used to have the same stuff happen on my 4.0 engines. The aftermarket sensors were always crapping out fast. I noticed the magnetic strength on those were weak. The OEM sensor was always stronger. I figure the, as the person mentioned further down, that the current must heat up and cause the magnet to go weaker? I'm not an electrical engineer either, but I figure the after market versions are plagued with them saving on copper when they build them.
Question Eric, would the crank relearn not being performed by the last shop cause this issue?
What can we say. Patience, persistance, commitment, strategy, analysis, science, imagination…. just beyond what I could think of. Way to go.

Love your video's by the way. Just throwing it out there, if the after market sensor was installed, and a relearn CSR was not done, could that cause the issue? Just wondering?

Spot on… I went to bed couldn't sleep and have spent the last 3 hrs reading and watching videos and THIS IS THE ONE!!!!!!!!!! that describes my issues with my jeep compass to a T. Same Issues as your customer was having. Calling Chrysler Monday and going to get my Crank Censor/OAM. Not the after market one 🙂 Will post update if something goes amiss.. hey eric yeah, my buddy is having the same problem with his 2009 jeep patriot i put an AutoZone aftermarket sensor on and it's still doing the same thing, so I guess I'll tell him to get an OEM part from the dealership.

I'm just a one man shop and have been fixing for 50 years using common sense. My friend's 2016 Patriot is doing the same thing at a real bad time (his wife has cancer in her brain and she has 3 weeks to 3 months left) They are back and forth to Dr's and hospitals and with only one car are stranded 45 miles out on their farm. The local "big" shop says maybe crank sensor or PCM. I was really hoping I could give him some help, The shop was going to put both parts on for around $3000. My advice before (and after) watching this video was to get them to just replace the crankshaft position sensor. The dealer couldn't find a computer anywhere anyways, and of course when they drove it the jeep worked perfect!

My sons patriot looks identical with lights and mileage . Pulled the codes same replaced cam sensors vvt solenoid s one had to be chiseled out . And crank sensor. Going to see if my scanner does relearn . Pulling my hair out . Thanks for the info.

Holy crap!!! This describes my situation with my Jeep Compass EXACTLY. I bought a cheap made-in-China crankshaft position sensor after having issues, and it worked great for about a month. Now the issues are MUCH worse, giving the exact same symptoms as this video. I’m going to my local Chrysler center to get a new one and have them relearn and whatnot. Thank you SOOOO much for posting this journey!
Something stuck in my mind that at times the after market sensor is not pulling to ground.
If they're that sensitive I see differences in the quality, inconsistency and amplitude of the signal square wave. Let's see what they OEM sensor shows.
Do you know we're is the camshaft sensor located? on jeep your working on.

Use OEM.
2016 patriot had crank sensor go out three times. All aftermarket but last one went bad. Got last from autozone and it’s been couple years. I cheated to make easier. Put stud into block instead of bolt so I can reach from top and not fumble around with. Now can change on road in twenty minutes if necessary! Only real problem with Jeep!
Maybe I’m dense but wouldn’t a relearn on the aftermarket sensor work?
