this is the 3rd video on this john deere 318 that had been given to us by a subscriber so we can video it getting fixed, in this chapter we find the engine to have more damage then expected, so lets see if we can fix it and if it will still run after putting it back together.special thanks to charlie for hooking us up with the snow blower and plow setup.

Sounds really sweet now ,good job.ðŸ‘😀
Wack the threads, I call it Louisiana locktite. Works every time.
Sounds fantastic, great restoration Mustie 😊
yes, put it back together, but find out how those adjusters are to be permanently anchored. glued or whatever!
Don't need to lap. The valve is not the same angle and the valve seat. YMMV
The JD 318 was a beast of a machine / mower. Had one for years! Sold it to buy a JD 455 I've had it the last 20 odd year. O and I agree with the others here,You are Excellent at what you do. I've learned many things from you over the years watching you on here. Thank You!
Have you run into problems with ignition modules & related parts? Engine just suddenly shuts down & won't restart until engine cools abit…😮
You turned that into a great machine !
Looks like you got that plow and snowblower from Steve Lavimoniere

I wish I had your ability. 🎉
Another great video. I'll never will do this type of stuff but I like watching your videos.
Almost comical in a sense how this went from a "Will it Run?" to a Full Restoration over the course of 3 videos. Sounds like new and would be a prize were it to be sold. (Guess it's still a ship rig?)
Punch locking sealing surfaces isn't that uncommon in other industries, like firearms for instance, which see oodles more pressure than an ICE ever will. I can understand the objection, but it's a perfectly serviceable technique on surfaces of differing hardness to keep separation at bay.
Victory!
I have the same engine on my 316 , and I always worry about overheating and valve damage, so I run it with 2cyc-oil in a 32:1 ratio and I dont rev the engine. That P218 is almost 2x the displacement you need so there is never a need to operate that engine at 3000rpm. Keep it under 2000 and you will be fine. that valve adjuster nut, could you have fabricated a very thin jam nut to keep it in place ?
Just incredible dude! What a huge difference!!!
That was very nice I guess lower rpm and so on done work on cars bent valve and hammer was a learning experience I understand about parts 😀 ðŸ‘
See ya Mustie
Yes it sound real good, good work Man
My dad's 1982 F600 bucket truck has a Onan generator that powers outlets on the truck and runs the hydraulic pump for the bucket. We have never had to do much work to it at all, it starts up easy whenever we go to use it.
real challenging this time. was great to see you stick to it and then run into other problems. thanks for the education you provide.
Having an extension (/'torque stick') is irrelevant on a proper torque wrench (- like used here). The 'torque sticks' only do anything when used with impact wrench.
I've had luck magnetizing screwdrivers by attaching a magnet to the shaft of the screwdriver. It only works while the magnet is attached to the screwdriver. I've retrieved small screws and nuts in my time doing this.
Nice Work there
I love Thise lawn tractors
I'we got a few og Them myself
Lots of parts are still available you need to get everything through John Deere everything you need for an awning is available through John Deere or Cummins Onan
Engine is MUCH quieter!
I have always wanted a 318 but they are very hard to come by where I live.
Your rants my education! Thank You!
Checking valve seat with a sharpy works.I think lipstick may also work well.
I recently bought a DYT 4000 used in great condition I have things that came with the mower I don’t need where I live tire chains rear wheel weights and front end weights all brand new it doesn’t snow much where I live.
I was turning wrenches today working on my tractor 🚜
I have a craftsman DYT 4000 I bought used in perfect condition thing is the man I bought it from gave me items I have no use for ie tire chains rear wheel weights and front end weights I live in south east Louisiana where we don’t get snow but maybe every few years all this stuff is brand new still in the box.
As tayrl dactyl says it ain't the space shuttle its just a lawnmower
I was a hippie back in the 60's. It was pretty much a blur! LOL
Sweet!
Cool video. Just happened to stumble across it. Nice job on the valve straightening. It was funny you mentioning about the valve seats coming out on Briggs. I’ve come across a couple of those issues myself. You’re right, very common occurrence on Briggs, maybe others too but only ever seen it on Briggs.
