In this video, I am going over how to make Linux login look better than Windows by modifying the config of LightDM. I go over 4 modifications to LightDM: Default Desktop Environment, Default Greeter, Autologin, and Themes.

  1. Hello There,

    I have a question.

can I create this window using Tkinter in python and use it as default window using lightdm, if yes then how can I move forward in this process

  2. how do i change login menu to load on a specific monitor(as i use dual monitor setup)? currently i am facing problem that the login menu is loading in secondary screen but i want it to be load in primary screen

  3. I tried using a tool that does this in fedora 36 with xfce (not the spin though, a COS)… It looks better already but none of the settings work… Time to learn more technobabble lol

  4. Hi Chris, I'm currently running Pop OS 21.10 and I can't seem to configure it I don't see a lightdm
Conf but there is a lightdm.conf.d in the folder any tips

  5. Today I went down the rabbit hole of customizing my laptop and hit a wall trying to add a custom login sound.. I spent a while trying to figure that out with no luck. Is that possible to do on Linux distros? I'm running Fedora 35.

  6. I really like lightdm… but I think is unnecesary unless you really use it for more than just login to your user and that's it… I use ly it's as fast as you can get and yet I feel it looks great cause it's a simple TUI with the simple functionalities to log to an user and choose the WM it's great but lightdm is the second best or the best if you use more functionalities or are a user intimidated of a black screen ehehe 😛

  7. I need to enable a user guest in my archlinux because My little brother will use my pc and I dont want that he breaks my pc. How can I enable a user guest with lightdm and archlinux?

  8. This is supposed to work with Debian/Ubuntu -variants, but I cant get it to work with Pop OS.

The barebones default lightdm works, but as soon as you try to configure it (according to the way on this video), it crashes on boot.
Sometimes you can log in with tty5, but sometimes it wont boot at all and I had to use live-USB to mount the drive, chroot into it and then switch back to gdm3.

  9. LightDM definitely is not "one of the best DM", because it just sucks on Wayland-only systems. + try to "user friendly" way to configure multiple displays where some of them are in portrait mode and few of them are of different size.

  10. Hey, I did part of this video and realised that it is not for me. I now get an error that says [FAILED] Failed to start Light Display Manager.
I only did sudo systemctl disable sddm and sudo system ctl enable lightdm.

  11. <SOLVED> hen trying to enable lightdm on debian it gave the error:
The unit files have no installation config (WantedBy=, RequiredBy=, Also=,
Alias= settings in the [Install] section, and DefaultInstance= for template
units). This means they are not meant to be enabled using systemctl.
Please respond quickly as i can't currently shutdown my pc-

  12. um I might have missed a step or something. it says failed to start: Light Display Manager.

I'm using the default XFCE of Endeavor OS. will prob switch to cinnamon cause love the virtual display overview but ye.
