  1. “Three dog night” or 4 or 5 dog night is in fact a coolness rating by Australian indigenous desert dwellers when camping in the desert in winter when the overnight temperatures may drop below zero. These indigenous campers always had many dogs which they slept with and used them to give them warmth.

  2. I current own 09 Highlander with the 2GR-FE 3.5. it has a small oil leak on the timing chain cover. Is it possible to change the timing cover gasket and VVTI gears without pulling the motor out?

  3. Watching you work on these newer cars with all their plastic parts, and all the stuff you have to do to just change a simple part is CRAZY! I remember when nearly everything under the hood was metal and nearly everything hand room to work on it or remove it. I miss the old days, points condenser, with one coil, and nearly every spark plug was easy to get at without removing a bunch of plastic parts.

  4. 42:08 not spark plug tubes, but several replacement oil seals that I have installed, where the manual calls for using an "appropriately sized socket" and plastic hammer ie: camshaft seals, front and rear main seals, and diff seals. I lightly lubricate the outer surface and press fit by hand. Never (knock on wood) had that fail. Erm… I think on a rear main I used a mallet to work it around actually. It's pretty large.

  5. 26:58 IDK if that's fair. I worked at Walmart for a while. The shop was kept very clean, and we had a rigorous computer learning program that covered SOPs. When you got to the shop, it was customary to have a "mentor/trainer" to show you around the shop and where the tools and supplies are. But any deviation in procedures is not the fault of a "quick lube shop", that's an individual's work ethic and I can say I saw much worse at Hyundai.
Even their equipment and oil jugs were mealy compared to Walmart.

It might vary by location, but we were required to document the page number in "the book" that referenced our torque specs and oil filter. Every car that came in for tires LEGIT got the lug nuts checked by another member after a test spin in the parking lot. AND we had good times! 7'30 average time per tire. 11 minutes for an oil change, two cars at a time with a pit.

    I miss that job.

  6. I was just waiting for you to drop something in the intake I felt relief after the towels were stuffed in there don’t forget the rags lol I know someone did that with a shop rag

  7. Ray, yes it is very, very important to block the intake. I have an interesting story about that subject.
My son was working at a Mercedes dealership. He had just replaced the heads on a V12 Mercedes. The intake was installed on the engine, the intake at the throttle body was open. Naturally this was facing out toward the front. He was several feet from the car and was over at a vise. He was cutting something with a small flat faced cutting pliers, and the tip broke. It sounded like a 22 rifle when it broke. He searched for the tip, but didn't find it. It was on Saturday and he and I were the only people in the shop. We proceeded to button up the job, and fired the engine up. Ran fine, except for a random rapid ping. Shut the car down, and proceeded to remove bank 1 head. Found the tip of the pliers. How it made it past the intake valve, I have no idea. Why it didn't score the cylinder wall, I don't know. My son still has that small, but not tiny, piece of metal in the top drawer of his top tool box. Any time he opens anything on an engine, it get plugged up.

  8. I would replace the 3 coils under the intake manifold and move the good ones from under the intake to the front. If you do that the customer could change the front ones as they go bad.

  9. One of us put the spark plug tube seals in upside down. You can see how the original ones are at 39:18 or so. You can see your inverted version at 42:18.
Probably won't matter though as the oil just goes splashy splash inside and gravity just would keep it away from the top.
