Here was the fix where appmanifest is fixed in file explorer: https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/2947
Wow privacy nightmare how could microsoft do this
I DON'T UNDERSTAND 3/4THS PORTION OF THE VIDEO. WHAT IS CONCERNING IS THAT PEOPLE FOLLOWING THIS DISCUSSION A LARGE PERCENTAGE WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO START TO FIX THIS… HOW ABOUT JUST DISABLING THE RECALL SWITCH SOMEHOW
if u don't have NPU u wont get recall and u wont get copilot
so when u get custom build PC from shop or build it urself skip adding NPU and u don't half to worry
Those people who use incognito…
Glad there’s a fix – Recall had some serious red flags.
But if this is the direction Windows is heading, we need more transparency, not just patches.
Appreciate the forward-looking take. The real question now is: what comes after the fix?
If it became mandatory I would have to simple never use Windows again. Currently I game on Windows because I enjoy Gsync and native performance but do everything else on Linux. Linux gaming is good enough and getting better to the point I could manage without Windows.
Solution: 2 SSD's; one with Windows, one with Linux (dual boot). Use Linux as your daily driver for banking, youtube, etc. Boot into Windows only when necessary (to play games, use specialized software, etc.).
Shut Up app turns off Co-Pilot and Recall.
Microsoft Recall = Total surveillance
AI NPU that will OCR your screen
Oh, it's malicious!
Are we doomed? Is it part of new 'Skynet' in real life?
If one were to install an older copy of Win 10 22H2 and use group policy to block feature updates after 20H2, would that successfully prevent the "Mandatory" copilot installation?
Rob Braxman was talking about this to
Heres a conspiracy theory for you all. What if the developers at microsoft used AI to make this "feature" and just copy and pasted the code. And this is a part of the pre requisite for AI trying to find a way to break free, by recording the developers pc's and workflows
found something from Microsoft, they referred to it as AI Explorer, what's to say that the new explorer is not itself Recall, which explains explorer changing if you remove Recall
Chris, its people like you that keep MS honest. With all the shady stuff they're doing (not to mention their founder) I can't imagine this number of holy-crap items are purely accidental. I just built a Core Ultra 7 computer and I'll for sure be using your disable co-pilot tweak.
Exactly. My 24H2 has recall also but it is disabled. I would say watch and keep an eye on it and should Microsoft, through an update, enables Recall so you can disable it.
you don't have to worry the future is Harmony OS. made in china
This is utter insanity. Thanks for your amazing work on winutil
If not mandatory, then remove it.
My computer, manufactured in mid-2024 hasn't got Recall.
