1. For those who might wonder why just disabling the feature is not enough: when Microsoft releases big feature updates or even just a cumulative fix pack, there is a risk that previously disabled features get turned back on. You're unlikely to read through what each bugfix is going to do to your system.
   Ok, but then if you remove the feature you should be safe, right? Not necessarily. For anyone who have had windows issues before, you've probably come across a helpful response to use the "sfc" and "dism" commands which can repair issues on your system, by replacing missing or corrupt files with the original ones from the windows image. If Recall is a dependency for file explorer, these commands may just "repair" this feature too.

2. I like old version of Windows over the crappy UI windows 11 and 10 have. I removed REcall by removing it's files and loved the bug LOL

Put the Copilot Beta embedded into Notepad in Windows 11 Pro to the list of to-do, because I have run the winutil with all possibly bypasses ect, but I can't get rid of the embedded Copilot Beta embedded in Notepad.exe, no matter how many times I run your script trying to disable or delete Recall and Copilot.

So this recall thing was probably the reason why my gaming laptop with 12th Gen i5 (8 cores 12 threads) was lagging a lot while just doing basic tasks, the whole system freezing while just running a browser. This happened in 24H2, so I downgraded to 23H2 and now the laptop runs super fast again, even during doing heavy tasks like playing Cyberpunk 2077 at max settings it never lags.

9. Just a few days ago updated to 24H2. Now when I check the command prompt with the line, I do see Recall being there but it's disabled. I'm thinking that my laptop is a bit on the older side (acquired it like two years ago or so)… So I don't think this one has Copilot+, which is a requirement but I dunno. Another thing that I hear helps prevent (at least for now) the implementation of Recall is to have a local account, not a MS one.

   However I've noticed a couple bugs in the system after the update, nothing too major but I'm thinking going back to the previous version, at least for now. Yeah, the 24H2 has some nice features but I kinda don't need them, so that's a plus as well. That's my experience with these matters.

11. And this is why everyone needs to move away from Microsoft as a whole. They want to be shady to the people that made them the giant they are. Then we need to unmake them. Empty pockets tend to be a great motivational tool to do the right thing.

13. I just got the Windows update. It looks like it's disabled (According to DISM). But my Explorer window still looks like yours.

15. Screw Windows; it's time for everyone to personally move to and install Linux (for free).

    Though if you really still want to use Windows for somethings; install a VM (aka Virtual Machine via Virtual Box) in Linux and then install Windows 7, 8, 10 in the VM – it's much safer that way.

    PC – 2. Well, I'm certainly a Linux guy and I know you are too, so….- 2 is appropriate.

17. At this rate some community will end up keeping Windows 10 alive and updating it all and patching it to remain compatible with W11/12 apps on their own, leaving Michaelsoft in the dust.

    W10 will be, like 7, treated like XP and people will cling to it for years.

    Even now, many hesitate or have switched to Linux.

20. Maybe this will be an alternative way of disabling the 'new' file explorer and using the old one instead – which many users like to do.

21. I finally have enough of Microsoft. Not that Google is any better – – but – Google is providing incredible services that really make me dependent on the internet. Who travels these days without being guided by Google to the next restaurant, gas station, etc.
    Use Microsoft services and unless you sign up for this, and to validate your login you must sign up for that, and by the end of an hour of work – all you accomplished is having subscribed to services with automatic renewals on which you will eventually spend another few hours with your bank to block.
    The spirit of Bill Gates – which made him one of the richest men on the planet is deeply embedded in Microsoft's business practices.
    Bill Gates told the world – I retire and donate ALL MY MONEY – a foundation – whose responsibility is to spend it on vaccines for the poor children in Africa. He did not tell the world that he kept some money to become the supplier of those vaccines and medications to his own Foundation.

23. But, will Windows update put Recall right back on? I have Recall but it shows not enabled. Linux is a rabbit hole for the average users or someone wanting to do videos and movies. It is a nightmare.

29. mine was disabled when I checked my dell laptop got the new 24h2 but my home built PC did not get the update

30. brand new clean install of 24H2 10.0.26100.2605 on non-copilot 14900KS , DISM reported recall was already disabled

31. does a registry key prevent this from being reactivated? I'm seriously considering jumping onto Zorin. Absolutely over this type of behaviour by MS.

34. I brought the Files app because Windows explorer was bugging out and during the course of the day would stop loading icons (photo and vid icons etc). The only way to fix it (for a few hours) was to restart the PC. Anyway, the problem still exists with Files app. So Files app looks like just a skin piggy backing off of explorer. I can't see the point. BTW, this icon problem with windows is common

35. Just switch to Linux and completely ditch the complete garbage that Microsoft is calling an "OS" these days. Simple as.

36. Recall is just nicely worded backend software for the CIA/FBI implemented surveilllance features that our government wants to deploy…you know, for our own good.

37. Isn't the whole problem that they are pushing features no one wants? You should have a stripped down version available if you want and then add features vs this bs. But nowadays everyone is a dollar. The appeal for windows is at an all time minimum because of themselves. I hope linux devs see what is going on and make a version for casual consumer where they have so much ease of access and handle that they can just swap over without effort

38. I am currently on Windows 11 24H2 and the command states that Recall is Disabled. (By default)

39. Microsoft's 24H2 version of Windows 11 nearly bricked my $1500 gaming laptop into an infinite freeze/restart/BSOD loop. I was somehow able to rescue it from the brink, but even after reapplying (very expensive/high end) thermal paste, and fully dusting out the insides, it still idles ~10 degrees hotter than it did before the update.
    Yeah, that glorified malware of theirs is what is the final straw to get me to go full time Linux. While Linux is far from perfect, and despite my issues with Steam OS (Valve's odd offshoot of Arch), I don't think I've ever heard of an update of Arch, SteamOS, Debian, etc that caused your entire system to brick. 💀

Hi Chris, You are the Guru, billions are left on the tree to pick… Isn't there a way to make a kill switch program that kills telemetry from all these smart devices. prevent small devices from reaching the new could be the new wave to secure all things. I am working on a dumb box for my smart TV,
