FRONTLINE investigated how sweeping changes in the meat industry — making it vastly more centralized, high-tech and efficient — led to low prices, but also introduced new risks. (Aired 2002)

The hamburger is as American as apple pie. When this documentary aired, the average American ate three a week — and hamburgers had become the engine of a vastly changed meat industry. In “Modern Meat,” FRONTLINE investigated whether dramatic changes in the U.S. meat industry were compromising the safety of America’s beef supply — and examined why contaminated meat was getting through the system.

  1. When you get Hamburger in a chain store you get Tube meat. Tube meat is sold as REGULAR CHUCK AND SERLOIN. The CHUCK is not meat from the Chuck of the STeerR ,THE SERLOIN IS NOT SERLOIN meat from the steer. All label CHUCK AND SERLOIN mean HOW LEAN OR FAT the meat is. Chain STORES USE STANDARE meat COW meat and Bull meat to get the fat and lean %. YOU ARE NOT getting USDA CHOICE meat in the HAMBERGER. In todays world the word SELECT MEAT means the meat is STANDARD grade and that is a POOR grade of meat. 50% of all meat in CHAIN STORES are all STANDARE or SELECT meat. IF ANY PACKAGE IN THE MEAT CASE DOES NOT SAY it is USDA CHOICE it is not CHOICE meat and it will be tough and have NO TASTE.

  2. Irradiated food? Toxic… putting out one fire only to create another. The prevalence of diseases and increasing problems coupled with the (seemingly endless) attempts at innovating against these disasters through technological advancement (all the evil schemes we see today against the people) is proving itself to be a complete and major failure. Satan cannot provide for his constituents. It was the ego—arrogance augmented by ignorance—that led Satan to believe that he could take care of a dominion, as a god, and run it without disease, misery, war, accidents, and chaos. The evidence is all around us, and oh boy how much has changed for the worse today in 2025 with the advent of bio weapons produced by domestic terrorists (our gov and devil corps), nanotech, deadly synthetic viruses in our meats, artificial meat and food lab grown… list goes on. The distinction is being made between those in God’s kingdom where there is no problems and perfect happiness, and those in satan’s kingdom being one of his constituents.

  3. Our family buys from a local farmer, you can purchase a 1/4 grass fed cow for about $6 per pound processed that averages 80-100 pounds we vacuum seal and freeze for year round meat that we know where it comes from

  4. Get back to localized farming. It brings prices way down. Force prisons to become farms and factories again. They can buil the crap we get from China. They learn a skill they can use. They will police themselves and most will not repeat crimes if they have something they can rely on, themselves.
