In this video I have a look at this 2012 Chevy Equinox that was brought here by another shop. They installed a reman engine and have been having problem with it ever since. They took it to the local GM dealer and they finally threw their hands up and said they have no idea what is wrong with it. The parts cannon was unloaded and the thing smells of frustration. Let’s have a look.

  1. If anyone needs a reman engine, I recommend Brown's Auto 😮 of Rutland, Vermont. I have a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 liter hemi. I got a long block. After almost 2 years, it still is perfect. And they are not expensive. I think it was like 3800 with a 3 year 36,000 Mike warranty

  2. Great video.. I swear, I think if I run into major problems. You would be the guy I would trust, it's really hard finding good mechanic who know their stuff.. Peace

  3. great tech, but get really tired of the negative comments smart a—- remarks, did not do that when you started but for some reason you decided that was entertaining…..wrong. buy the way ,my 2 daughters each have an equinox with 200,000 thousand miles and very minimal problems

  4. I don't understand how a shop charges for this type of diagnosis. Is it a one hour diagnosis charge for knowledge that took a veteran mechanic a lifetime to aquire? It has to be mentally exhausting chasing things like this as opposed to a brake job. The dealer and the shop before couldn't figure it out making the car a paperweight without the knowledge.

  5. Hey Eric, on my last rebuild job (64 F100 Restomod) just about every engine component failed. The two worst to diagnose were, the HEI distributor seized when the "fake" crankcase gas seal fused to the shaft and caused the distributor to rotate out of time. Who would think that could happen? The second worst was the "Chinese" $90 carb failed. To save manufacturing costs they made the Venturi tubes separate and glued them on the bottom. They both failed and I found them on top of the butterfly plates. Who would look for that after the distributor failure? These were the two hardest to figure out but many other parts failed as well .

  6. The dealer mechanics don't know sh*t !!!! I took the wife's Buick in for an oil change and gave a card the dealer sent me for a free fluids top off and 60 point inspection. When the car was done and I came to pick it up, I lifted the hood and looked at the empty washer fluid, then the brake fluid that was on the add mark, took off the battery tops and one cell was low, just above the plates. Took off the radiator cap and I couldn't see the antifreeze inside the radiator. I went in to the service advisor office and asked to get the manager. After about 10 minutes in comes the cocky idiot service manager and says sarcastically "" What's the problem ""? I proceded to show him "" The problem "" and he said that's normal levels !!! I then wanted an appointment with the Dealership Owner. He was gone for the day, so I said make an appointment for tomorrow. The service manager got all huffy and said that's not necessary, and he added the necessary fluids while complaining every moment. He said are you satisfied now and I said yes, that's the way it should have been done in the first place. NEVER EVER EVER TRUST THE MECHANICS !!!! I tried to reach the Dealership Owner for the next three days, but every time I called and asked for him, he was always busy and would call me back. Of course the call never came !!!!!! 😠🤡🤡💩💩😿👎👎

  7. I had my 2006 Ford F150 5.4 phasers go out and want those in there I might as well replace all the tensioners and the chains. Now it runs like a brand new truck

  8. Another fine example of why the backyard mechanic really loves this channel!! Mr. O, I went to school for mechanics, helped my step son earn his ASE certification, and somehow I still find myself learning wonderful new things watching your brilliance at work!!! Keep' em coming!!! We love you out here!!!

  9. It's very simple; people assume that car dealerships are experts on the cars vehicles that they sell. It only makes sense. They see these vehicles every day, all the time. How could they not be experts on them?

  10. that and how about those KIA mopar engines. that all look the same. the "world " whatever engine. ive had a few of those night mare swaps dropped off here for Diag. mopar 4.7's as well . US local DIAG guys get the other guy's messes and parts cannon jobs.

  11. It never ceases to amaze me just how much this guy knows! And its funny when he says if i can do so can you! Ah no, no you cant! This guy has forgotten more shit than 99.99% of all mechanics will ever know! FACT!

  12. Just to show you how one tech can level down a dealership . I worked in a GM dealer , and one of the other techs replace a Northstar engine in a caddy . But when he started it up , the engine would rock back and forth for about 30 seconds Then run smooth . After he changed just about everything on that engine ,still he and others could not figure it out ,why it would shake that bad for 30 seconds . Turn out the Factory engine came full of 8qts of oil . and he filled it with 8qts of oil thinking the engine was dry . So on start up the engine was churning to much oil causing the engine to shake . It was by accident that someone not involved in the diag , pull the oil dipstick and found oil level way to high . Something as simple as to much oil and not checking it ,because he assumed it was full . . .We mechanics are all human and some of us make bone head mistakes

  13. I work at a gm dealership and installed a rem motor and it ran rough at about 2000 rpm
Tried to figure out why but not having any luck
Called tech assistant and was told to install the cams from the old engine, this corrected my problems
