No WAY! A Chevy W/ Electrical Problems

In this video we have a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 4×4 with an electrical problem. Customer states the trailer lights do now work. During diagnostics we found the 7 pin trailer wiring connector did not have power for the brake lights, turn signals, and the marker / running lamps. Further diagnostics revealed corrosion damage in the fuse block under the hood.

  1. Great video Ray. I maintain fleet of snow plow trucks in New York. Combine the water with salt and these things fail and an alarming rate. The first thing we usually see is the fuel pump fuse which is a 20 amp. It melts right into the box and it will kill the truck on the road of course. We usually remove them and make sure the pins are clean and put a little dielectric grease on them at every other service. If there’s any indication they’re getting warm or hot we will get a replacement fuse box before it fails on the road downtime is not worth the $200 or whatever these things cost. They’re actually a bargain when they come loaded there’s 50 bucks worth of relays in these things as you know.

  2. I bleve if I had a job working on trailer lights , I would spend a couple dollars and make my own test equipment with a couple connectors, check fuses first then move back to the tail end plug in my self made toys and poke my meter leads in the toys rather than dingle around with the plugs in the vehicles, when done hang my toys on the wall ready for the next trailer light problem. The reason I think I would do that is , I already have.

  3. I had same issue but in my case it was a bit of corrosion on the male plug on the boat trailer. Cleaned and hit it with some Deoxit (great product btw) and never happened again.

  4. The "known" issues with any given model can be more valuable than the Whole Snap-on truck with all of it's tools! That comes only from experience and sharing by those in the field! A good mechanic has other tools that don't fit in a toolbox, like Bearded Ford Tech for most stuff Ford. But, when get "Super Duty" stuff just leave the Bearded guy alone and bug Arod ! lol. Can't leave out a subscription like "Alldata" the best shared data base for all things vehicles and you can't be just a user because it takes everyone's contributions to keep it accurate as possible! Because modern vehicles have so much stuff that working on them can be a nightmare!
Keep your content rolling Ray and always remember that it is "your content" whatever the subject may be for each video!

  5. Wow Ray fully behind you what the hell has gone wrong with America unfortunately it's happening in UK as well
Keep going but Ray please be careful please look at the bigger picture you have a lovely wife and great children to look after ❤

  6. My grandson brought his 2015 ford f150 by the other day saying his lights for towing his boat weren’t working. After diagnosing the plug, I discovered that when the hitch was installed, it had pinched the wiring between the hitch and frame. This was a factory installed hitch, not sure how it had made 75,000 miles with no issues?

  7. I have a 2016 Sierra with the same issue. Great video just came back from a tow job with my electric trailer brakes not functioning properly. This video really helped a lot. I probably won’t fix it myself and I hope when I go into the shop, the mechanic thinks that I don’t know what I’m talking about when it might be the problem that I witnessed on this video.

  8. I had a 2005 Malibu Maxx. First off, something melted in the running light housing. I mentioned it at the dealer and the advisor said if replaced it would probably happen again. Then it started going through headlight bulbs on one side. Every few weeks the turn signal would act up and I’d find the headlight bulb out. I think it was after I sold the car, just for fun, I googled the problem. I found a forum that basically said GM knows it’s an issue but didn’t fix it. I’m guessing it wasn’t a fire hazard and/or it would be expensive to recall.

  9. With all the recalls lately makes me glad that i still have my 85 Silverado. Only thing wrong with it at the moment is has low oil pressure and haven't been able to look at it yet

  10. I got pulled over for no trailer lights. Problem was in the trailer 7-way had to repair it in a dark parking lot middle of the night with a Swiss Army knife. Fun times! No ticket BTW!

  11. This was the correct fix. I would have just added an aftermarket relay to bypass the internal relay if it was my truck. I hate the internal relays that make you replace the fuse box or tipim.
