How errors by coroners and forensic pathologists have allowed potentially guilty perpetrators to go free and the innocent to be accused of crimes they did not commit. (Aired 2011)

Popular television shows have portrayed death investigators as high-tech sleuths wielding the most sophisticated tools of 21st century science. A 2011 investigation by FRONTLINE, ProPublica and NPR found a very different reality: A dysfunctional system with few standards and little oversight. In state after state, reporters found autopsies conducted by doctors who lacked certification and training, an increasing number of Americans going to the grave without being examined at all – and vulnerable people suffering most from the country’s system of death investigation.

  1. I am 100% in shock right now…. MY SONS AUTOPSY WAS DONE HERE IN LAS VEGAS UNDER MURPHY (the coroner/dr/whatever the f**k he is who was interviewed in this program)AND SOME OTHER GUY WHO WAS A 1 MAN BAND CALLED “SKINNER RAT”! How am I to believe ANYTHING his autopsy says??!! I am so disgusted that this happens! THANK YOU to everyone involved in making this and PBS! It was VERY eye opening! I’m literally at a loss for words…

  2. My heart goes out to the father Mike the father of the young lady who was put in fucking five-point restraints shit like this is why you should have to be a trained physician and I ain't talking about a pediatrician a forensic biologist not some stupid ass pediatrician

  3. Wow the arrogance and hubris of those coroners. That was wild to listen to the purple tie man speak in circles. That dude is so unqualified you can tell he knows he’s in the “good old boys” club. We call those types QUACKS. Unqualified and has probably let true justice slide in hundreds of cases. Damn shame. Dr Frank Minyard is his name. Shame on that man. Retire and let the people of New Orleans obtain actually professionalism backed by caring humans with brains and scientific understandings. Clearly he isn’t that.

Great work. Thank you front line

  4. We must bare in mind :
50% of all Medical Doctors are BELOW AVERAGE .
MOST SUB LEVEL DOCTORS END UP IN PUBLIC HEALTH FUNCTIONS. SUCH AS VETERANS ADMINISTRATION CLINICS AND HOSPITALS….
MOST AUTOPSY FUNCTIONS ARE PERFORMED BY THOSE WHO FAIL MEDICAL BOARD EXAMINATIONS..
AND 50% OF THOSE EXAMINERS ARE TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED, EVEN TO CLEAN THE WORK AREA.
Further fact to be noted :
ACCORDING TO NATIONAL RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, NO LESS THAN 27% OF POLICE OFFICERS AND SHERIFF DEPUTIES ARE PSYCHOLOGICALLY UNFIT TO WEAR A BADGE, MUCH LESS CARRY A FIREARM…
THOSE INDIVIDUALS MUST BE IDENTIFIED AND PURGED FROM ANY POSSIBLE POSITION OF AUTHORITY OVER PERSONS OR WHERE PERSONAL JUDGEMENT WOULD BE REQUIRED.

  5. Just like my brother which he died in 1998 at the age of 32 years old. He was healthiest person I’ve known and Einstein medical coroner in Philly determined his caused of death is SUD syndrome. Which is sudden unexplained death. wtf is sudden unexplained death. He died that means he died from a reason. Til this day we never know how he died.

  6. Another problem nationwide is that the training to become a forensic pathologist is insane (now for good reason) but on average we’re looking at 12-13 years of schooling, its not like their trying to save a life here. I think people are gravitating towards other doctor positions that require a lot less schooling, pay more and you get to cure people instead of dealing with death.

  7. After watching this just … what the hell … I'm disgusted! If you ever see something, then SAY SOMETHING! The fact that all of these people are allowed to just do their investigations blatantly wrong without being fired immediately is insane. God bless that nurse at the nursing home who tipped the authorities and the family off that their relative had been beaten and not died of natural causes 😮😮😮😮😮😮😢

  9. “I have to be believe what my pathologists say. I couldn’t do this job if I didn’t.”

Sir, you shouldn’t be doing that job PERIOD. You can’t even spell.

  10. Cayne’s story has always been very upsetting to me. I have asthma as well, and autism, in addition to other conditions, and it’s very scary that people like me can be killed this way.

  11. Dr. Gill has the skinniest arms I’ve ever seen on a man. My 5 year old nephew has bigger arms than him. Not to mention he sounds like a bumbling idiot.

  12. We in this country have lost Competency in many professional positions. Its one thing to make someone's pizza wrong. This is about life and death… and patient care. I have been in my profession for 35 years. When i was trained there were requirements to learn and shadowed by well experienced person to ensure patients were not harmed by my doing. Today, they hire 18 year old that worked at a coffee, given her 1 week trainging. Then set free to provide a medical service. Without proper education and supervised training. This is so Frustrating.

  13. 22:35 that guy is a pure piece of shit, lying out the skin of teeth, I've never in my life felt the need to absolutely want to uppercut someone so bad till now.. he fckim knows he's lying an is definitely aiding to police murder, he csn fck right off an i hope he sees the devil an becomes scared. He deserved everything negative towards him that comes.

  14. Here in America, a lot people die and never find what is the causes, if you are foreign they dont care, give to the family oh we don't know, if there is a crime if they are from other country, you dont care to find who kill him, just give the body to send to their country and the killer still around free!

  15. Maybe they should have coroners do sexy calendars like firefighters do?

No but for real, the fact that some of these people have no training, or education, is horrible. Coroners shouldn’t be elected, it should be the most competent person for the job

  16. because can now people can did for government American the same government can Kelly people American in American can se citizens people but not citizens people all people American Drugs not understand people citizens can people not citizens
