Rebuilding the Front Bolster Power Steering | Farmall 856 Restoration

Power steering is integrated into the front bolster on the 56 series Farmalls. In this video, I show how the system works and how to rebuild it.

  1. I'm so thankful for this video! I recently bought an 806 that's leaking in the same spot and I remembered that you had made this video. It gives me an idea about what I'm in for. It's a fairly significant leak so I'm going to have to do something sooner than later. Thanks again!

  2. Great video! I have a 560 and it's been leaking for the past 5 years and I could never find any info on the bolster or how to rebuild im pretty sure I have the same o ring problem. Haven't taken one apart yet but only one way to learn. Thanks for your help

  3. Hi Pete, Ross Clout here, I recently became a subscriber to your channel. I'm from Australia, and love your videos. I'm not a farmer, I'm a want-abe farmer. I love the mixed farming concept that you have going. Do you also keep sheep?

  4. pete. I love watching your videos, so much that I'm watching your tractor videos. im not a mechanic, nor am i interested mechanics but i like to watch your videos and iv seen the farm ones a billion times. much love from BC CANADA

  5. Hi Pete, if you read this, do you think cattling would be easier in Tennessee? I’m considering it but want a low maintenance setup, where they can just live off fenced land with a pond and no hand feeding and watering. And would the meat be worse quality because it gets a bit hotter in the summer? Or where do you think may be easiest?

  6. Pete, I enjoy your entire channel. I especially like the Farmall episodes as I grew up in western Oklahoma in the 60's and 70's with several Farmall tractors. I like the way you explain in very practical terms as you disassemble and then re-assemble. Keep up the good work!

  7. Hi Pete, I have just found your YouTube account today. I love it! Regarding the engine modifications I have allerted my husband, he is crazy about old cars en tractors. We "only" have a Chevrolet pickup truck from 1951 but he has renovated it completely. I liked the summerpost where you told us how to control the tomatoe plants, usefull tips! Last summer I had a lot of tomatoes but it became quite a wilderness at the end…. I will take away more leaves and be doing a lot more pruning next summer. Thank jou for the enormous effort you put into these videos. Greetings from Holland (the Netherlands).

  8. Interesting explanation of the way IH addressed power steering. Makes pretty good sense. Also interesting to see how different the engineers at IH approached power steering versus the way that Minneapolis Moline approached it. I'm no engineer, but the IH method seems much simpler. Thanks, Pete.

  9. Very helpful to watch your process on what I would not have the confidence to try on my own. I may never rebuild a tractor but will have a better idea of what is going on inside it. Thank you!

  10. Excellent video Pete. I do have a question. Is this hydraulics separate from the rest of the tractor or is this all one common system? Also it is rather comical that some farmer was out in his field with POWER rack and pinion steering while Mustangs and Corvettes were still old school. Now that is funny.
Thank you so much Pete for another educational and entertaining video.

  11. use to look forward to watching your show, now you put me to sleep with your subject matter, repairing farm equipment, come on now. guess i need to move on.

  12. Pete, some might consider you a Mechanic, some a Genius. I say both, and also someone that doesn't take himself too seriously. Great job as always, keep up the good work.

  13. Mr. Pete I'm pretty sure you sir are a professor or fancy teacher in another life love all your videos, but this kind is second to none sir thank you as always💯💯

  14. Hi Pete, Love watching the videos and just got a funny on this video. In between minutes 2:20/2:27 the taps on the setting of the barring sounded like the theme of Green Acres.!!! 😂 I watched every video of y'all's. I can't do all you do anymore. 4 back surgeries and nerve damage. I live through your videos. God Bless Y'all and Jesus Loves Y'all!!! Johnny 😊
