  1. You know Ray, you can wedge a pry bar down the backside of that timing belt cover, by the idler pulley and it will give you the clearance to get the water pump and gasket out. Just a tip I saw on another video, did it myself when I did my timing belt and water pump on my 04 Rx.

  2. 15:37 I swear the devil himself put that bracket in there. I had to do this whole thing on my wife's RX 330 and that was the hardest part. I needed to get a flexing ratcheting wrench. Then my hand needed to be double jointed to get that nut/bolt off.

  3. That tensioner with the green/blue grease seal is Chinese and guaranteed to fail prematurely. The red/brown sealed OEM tensioner is a Japanese Koyo and is the best money can buy. Replace with Koyo ONLY. It's well worth paying the minute extra cost.

  4. You don't need to remove both cam gears and the cover behind them to change a water pump on this 3MZ-fe. If you have solid experience with this popular Toyota engine, you'd know that you only need to remove the front cam gear so the cover can be tilted upwards – thus allowing the waterpump to be removed/replaced. You also don't need to make a special tool to remove the cam gears. If you own a chain wrench (what person who calls himself/herself a mechanic doesn't own one?), all you need to do is cut a section of the old timing belt off and wrap it around the cam gear to protect it from your chain wrench. Again, old trick that everyone with experience knows. Four days to do this job? Good thing you don't work as a mechanic for a living…

  5. Jesus you were not dead in the water you could have swapped the bearing out onto the bracket. It serves no functional purpose. Replacing the bearing is what’s important.

  6. Idk why people just don’t just do the cam and crank seals when they’re already this far into the timing systems on the 3mz and 1mz engines. Like it would have been an extra 10-15 minutes tops and a paint can opener with a pry bar works wonders. Then you just need to seat them. The crank is easy just use a pvc pipe or an extension and a dead blow but the cam seals need a special seating tool unless you can get a race and bearing seal tool in and smack it till it bottoms out. Space is just tight against the wheel well

  7. What's weird is I did a plug and coil job on a Ford escape (2003) and the intake has to be pulled for that as well and every single connecter for the front coils broke but none of the rear ones did just like in your case

  8. What's everyone's opinion on replacing the water pump pre-emptively? I understand the financial logic if you're paying someone else to do to potentially avoid paying labor costs twice. But what if you're doing the work yourself. Would you still pay to replace a water pump that is still good?

  9. Ray, you are a fortunate man, your wife is just adorable. I was watching her do the brakes on her car. You have a good wife. She is a plus in the business and will be a great service underwriter.

  10. I got a code p200a on my kia intake manifold the light came on for 2 days now it out been shopping all day no light on yet should I have it looked at or not it has been in the single digits Temps so would that of caused it

  11. Did you opened your own shop I just started watching I know you work in a different shop and I almost got fired from cat when I didn’t put any oil in the new oil filter and they told me if the engine would have looked up or damaged from no oil I would have to buy it so I put oil in all filter now and I will never listen to anyone that tails me not to you all my do it but one day it will come back to get you I work on 3406 cat engine and bigger working on a Mack truck putting a new head gasket and injectors init

  12. Exactly 💯 u' did not remove the towel. Oooops ' big mistake r. man. P.s. ur a good mechanic but?? So u have a wonderful day 😊 blessed you. Amen, pay attention. C'ya

  13. So, when it comes to the phrase "give 110% effort" or "give the job 110%", I think of naval ships and Star Trek. Engines have a 'rated maximum safe output'. You can push those engines to 110% and beyond. There's a famous WWII American submarine Captain that pushed his engines to 150% of safe-rated maximum to head off a Japanese carrier group. (Also the only submarine credited with sinking a TRAIN, among other insane feats but I digress.) The sub in question melted the ball bearings in some of its' engine components while doing so. My long-winded point is, you CAN give 110%, but try and sustain it, and you'll break and/or burn-out.
