In November 2020, Sam Sally, also known as Sam Elhassani, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for financing terrorism — making her the first American woman brought back from Syria or Iraq and convicted on ISIS-related terrorism charges.

How did this American mother go from a comfortable life in Indiana to the heart of ISIS’s self-declared caliphate in Syria, with her husband a sniper for the terror group and her 10-year-old son forced to threaten President Donald Trump in an ISIS propaganda video shown around the world?

FRONTLINE tells the inside story in “Return From ISIS,” a documentary in association with the BBC that has been nearly four years in the making.

  1. The fact that she isn’t the only one makes me so curious on what exactly these men are saying to these women to convince them to leave the country they’ve been born and raised into, moving their kids, and leave everything they’ve ever known to go live in a desert as a terrorist…

  2. She been very carefully trained/coached on what to say to this interviewer. Shame on her for following that nut and putting her children in a seriously deadly position!

  3. Just because she took a plea doesn't mean she truly thinks that. It was the best course she had.

IMO the way she treated the kids that her husband bought as slaves shows she isn't a bad person. She was a victim you IMO.

  4. She was raised in a high control group or cult when she was raised in Jehovah’s Witness and so she began to rebelling against that control and then bring groomed and ended up in a death cult.

  5. i can never bring my head around this, as American how do you even think for a second to go against your country and join these animals? they are good for absolutly nothing but destruction and evil. America please wake up and don't froget 9/11.

  6. Seems like Sam knew what was happening… The more her story unravels the worse it gets for her..
I just feel bad for Matthew. He's smarter than his own mother

  7. After destroying Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, the American deep state now has its eyes on destabilising Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, while showing this documentary as drama to the world.

  8. I am a psychologist and dare to say: Matthew is an extremely intelligent person. He is able to articulate his feelings and thoughts, and he can also put them into perspective — both morally and legally. The particular setting you put people in (and children are even more vulnerable!) is most decisive. People like him are the No.1 weapon to fight in a war. I am glad that he escaped from the wrong side. I wish you the best, Matthew. Know you worth and use it for the better.

  9. i do not get the spin on this doc, it could have been good. she obv made a huge mistake but hasnt she suffered enough? she was tortured by ISIS, abused and raped by her husband and is now getting jail time and is separated from her children. but you still need to make her look like a villain? do you not understand how coercive and abusive relationships work, especially with someone who is in an extremist cult?

  10. Να κατσεις με τους βρομιαρηδες τους διαλεξες φατους τωρα
