Anna Maria Island is the barrier island between Bradenton, Fl and the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Helene passed as a category 3 hurricane with the East eyewall at an estimated 80 miles West of the Island. It delivered a significant hurricane storm surge that washed across the entire landmass of Anna Maria Island leaving damaged structures and destroyed vehicles in its wake.

  1. I woke up in the hospital during the first full week of January. Saw my worried wife and surrounded by doctors. Come to find out, this was my second hospital visit and I could not remember how I got there or why. Blood pressure and blood sugar were in a race to see which would fail first. I was told I was standing on the proverbial banana peel waiting for the end. Stayed there a whole week. Still can't remember the episode that got me there. Might be a blessing. Either way, new meds, more meds and an appreciation for taking better of myself. I'll be 59 this June. Lucky to be here. You memories might not fully return. It is a defense mechanism in your brain. Just have a talk with your wife to make sure something stupid did not get said so you can ask for a blanket apology in case something did occur.

  2. Ive got to comment here. just as you got so frustrated with the rental car people, probably sitting in a call center somewhere that is far far away from where any storm wiped out entire cities,
they probably cant even image what the situation on the ground and have no clue. and as we rely on science to analyze oil samples from our machines we should probably rely on science experts who spent lifetimes trying to understand the global climate situation.
you seem like good people and you sure do know what your doing when it comes to modern vehicle repair, your an expert in your field. I spent bulk of my life in Florida and you might want to take my suggestion and bring an end to paying rent and buy or build your own shop. 20 years will top by before you know it and you and your children will be thanking me when your investment into owning your own repair shop building will forever increase in value and to be able to work after your mortgage is paid off is a feeling of security you will appreciate.

  3. Regarding your comments on pre filling oil filters. Aren’t you using that same dirty hose to pour fresh oil directly into the engine anyway?

  4. the LF wheel speed sensor wire is very close to the sidewall – I wonder is driving in heavy rain (which we get in the SE) that water slinging from the sidewall makes that wire flex and eventually is breaks inside…?

  5. Lake Speed proved, scientifically, that pre-filling is better, even with a normal sized filter. Obviously, if you're running a genuine risk of putting dirty on the clean side of the filter, then yea, don't do it. I get a shop isn't going to pre-fill every filter for a myriad of reasons, but I would never ever ever "pay a shop" for a freaking oil change, so I always pre-fill. On my sideways filters, I only half or 2/3 fill, based on how far horizontal the filter is (on my HEMI I do about 2/3's).

  6. I'm just wondering why, after all this time, you being an Amsoil dealer, and a mechanic/technician (what you "identify as", lol), having had that truck for a long time, why in the hell do you not ALREADY have the Amsoil Bypass system installed??? That was one of the first things I did to my LML.

  7. I am 58, i can still crush oil filters bare handed….the giant filters are obviously easier.

I still can cripple most men with a single kick at 59.

Age means little other than PAIN lol

  8. It’s not just the DirtyMax that has that ridiculous dipstick to positive terminal deal….Nissan Patrols with the 4.2 diesel have the same metal flexy stick, I had to zip tie a chunk of inner tube around the terminal after nuking my dipstick 🤪

  9. So Ray, Not sure you read these, but I'm sending it anyway. I know you like nice buzzwords to describe mechanical and scientific properties. (ie; Vault of viscosity.)
The scientific property to describe the smooth flow of oil out the bottom of that funnel of oil is laminar flow. Definition:
Laminar flows are smooth and streamlined, whereas turbulent flows are irregular and chaotic. A low Reynolds number indicates laminar flow while a high Reynolds number indicates turbulent flow. The flow behavior drastically changes if it is laminar vs. turbulent.
So the next time you show a smooth liquid flow…..say…"That there folks is laminar flow with a low Reynolds number!" And we will know you are a smart guy!
PS: When I was a substitute teacher I told high school kids….."If you don't learn something new every day, then you just wasted a day!"

  10. You can tell dude lived a sheltered life. It’s not a bad thing, you just can tell. If you’ve walked through the fire a few times as a kid you tend to handle the storms in life a little better.

  11. Hey Ray, I bet your wheel picks up something, on the road while travelling at speed and it tears out your ABS wire which is very close to the inside tyre sidewall.. Zip-tying it away from the tyre might solve the problem?
