Save The Cat! Weld On A Flange

In this video I help a customer out by replacing the rotted-out exhaust flanges on her 2015 Honda CRV. Convertors in NY are really expensive because we are forced by the government to purchase C.A.R.B. certified convertors regardless of the emission package the car came equipped with from the factory or we can face a fine of $25,000. (no joke look it up)
At any rate this is an easy fix and will last her a long time.
-Enjoy!

  1. Anyone notice the Warning Uncertified Welder Present sigh on the wall? In Australia we do 6 months of welding course during our automotive mechanical apprenticeship.
Here I am closing my eyes during the tack weld….I'm at home in my lounge room….old habits are still strong…..

  2. Mr. O Love watching you and have nothing but respect. I'm an automotive technician myself. It worries me to see you working with you wedding ring on! Every automotive instructor and trainer I've ever had say leave it at home! I'm sure you are aware, I'm just concerned for your finger. Thank you for creating such informational and entertaining content.

  3. Yeah man if the cat is still good there is no reason not to weld a new flange on it. I have done this many times in my home shop with cars with over 200k on them cause I'm in the northeast!.. No real mechanic should not have the abilty to weld should be among the first skills taught to all new mechcanics.

  4. Love your work/videos! I'm new as far as welding, and have been taking care of my own cars now, I'm an HVAC mech. now for 26 yrs, have been trying to find an answer on this ?: is it a good idea to mig/flux weld something while it's still on car? I was worried when doing my mid pipes that using the car as the ground or send charge through the car while welding would affect and possibly damage cars electronics? Would love to know your thoughts. Also, might I suggest a band saw (cordless obviously ) instead of sawsal in some cases. I learned the hard way😂. Thank you again

  5. Ha! If you saw my "gorilla" welding you would go get your certs. Ugly is not the word for my welding…..but it is not gonna fall apart! Bless you for being a good guy and helping when you can. Your little city should be proud to have you. They are lucky to have a true craftsman who believes in doing good work and taking care of the customer when possible. Keep on keeping on!!
