small farm life: winter

We like the quiet days of winter. The farm slows down and we get to spend time on other activities, as well as taking care of the animals. This video follows us on a day of winter life.

  1. There's something about the hay rake sitting partly covered in snow against the backdrop of the grey winter sky that brings everything to a peaceful standstill. ~~Jeff in CT

  2. Very nice! BTW, it was so eye-opening to see how many eggs you have washed by hand. It makes us appreciate the work that goes into delivering truly farm fresh products from small farms. Well worth the premium!

  3. At 3:19 My wife and I never sit facing one another, at home or at a restaurant as it’s not natural to oppose someone you love. We always sit elbow to elbow, facing the same obstacles, together in the same direction.
It does make a difference and after 20 years we heard that it’s something that European couples always do.

  4. I’m a retired electrician and I really enjoy your videos since discovering them this past summer. Pete. I’d like to ask a question about Hillary’s egg washing count. Does it include the cracked eggs that you keep for your family? Because if you’re eating a three egg omelette every morning, atop of the number for the rest of your family’s consumption, she’s washing a lot more than your 40 plus thousand; at the time of this video. Keep the videos coming.

  5. Could the clocks wood gears have fluctuations from winter to summer from humidity? Here in Virginia our wood doors shrink / swell so they won’t shut in summer and let air in winter! Just a thought. I so enjoy your stories.

  6. Does the wood stove heat the whole house? If so, how do you transfer the heat to the other rooms in the house? Nice video and keep up the good work!

  7. My Grandmother told me too never wash the Egs, because off disturbing the little Wachs protection. The Eg will faster dry out and you can ceep it less longer. What's your Opinion.?

  8. Just discovered you last week. Am really enjoying your farm, how you keep and relate to the livestock, your reflections, even the jokes! A real pleasant experience to see the variety, too. Keep it up!

  9. I know Summer 2021 is now upon us, but I find myself wishing I could give this a second thumbs up! 👍👍🖖

  10. You should lie like the government and say that you’re organic for the morons that actually believe something like they actually exists. Great video Pete! A year later.

  11. 42,000 eggs is a lot of eggs to wash. I am glad you figured out the verge on the Seth Thomas clock which will make the clock keep better time. Thanks for sharing some of your winter home life.

  12. I note that you mix white and brown eggs. Is this deliberate because that is what your customers want or do they just not mind. In this country if you did that the uproar of complaint would be huge as most people are very fussy about their eggs with brown being favored but those who like white will yell if there is a brown one in their carton. We are just seeing the blue eggs in the farmers markets here but not in main stream yet.
