Today I’m speed cleaning tractor parts! I’ve got a mountain of parts to clean and paint before the engine comes back from the machine shop, and I’m focused on getting them done. Along the way, we’ll disassemble the hour meter and figure out how it works (these old Farmall letter series hour meters are rare). I also show my preferred method to clean fuel tanks.

To order Pete’s book; “A Year and a Day on Just a Few Acres:” https://www.amazon.com/Year-Day-Just-Few-Acres/dp/149549957X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2NM8AQPCG3IT5&dchild=1&keywords=a+year+and+a+day+on+just+a+few+acres&qid=1587327049&sprefix=a+year+and+a+day+on+just%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-1

Very informative! May I ask, what kind of grinding wheel/grit did you use you use to clean up those parts on your bench grinder?
Very meticulous looks great
MD = million parts Diesel
ðŸ‘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽ðŸ™ðŸ» Enjoyed!
Look closely at the rest of the gauges… You'll see that they were all made at Rochester Products right here in our home state. I grew up in the suburbs of Rochester (Webster) so that's especially cool for me. You can get correct USA made reproductions from Pilot Knob restorations or Precision Tractor Parts. The cheapo gauges don't really last and they won't include the Rochester Products script.
phone cameras sure come in handy, what would we do without them.
I have an MD and appreciate this series I hope I never have to go through this!!!
The old stuff just is so nice to work on when it's all clean/lubed up correctly. Just smooth and solid. Nice work Pete.
Great video ! Where do you buy all the part for your tractor ? Steiner part ? Thank you
Love your vids buddy ! I have a small farm as well, I love playing farmer for fun !
Amazing! Can’t wait to see the painting & reassembly. The original design & manufacturing skills used to create all these intricate parts (just the hour-gauge, as an example) and then put together to make a working machine is mind boggling. Much respect for the diligent restoration work!
So once you get the MD running what are you going to use it for?
ðŸ‘
Pete, you need to get……a 3D printer! LOL
How can anyone not like seeing an old tractor completely refurbished? I mean anyone that is willing to disassemble such a machine and take their time to clean and rebuild it, has my honor.
Great video, as usual!!😃
To clean rusty tanks I use, after the acid, “Tankerite†which is a very thick red paint and avoids corrosion. I’m from Italy, I don’t know if the name it’s the same in America.
It's all looking real good!!!! That pallet is getting full!
Hey I’m was wondering how many tractors you have and how many aren’t restored??
Have a machine shop measure the pitch and reduction ratio of your worm gear. you should be able to find something online once you know that.
Can't express my gratitude for you making these videos. They are a treasure. I have two MDs and hope to start into one soon. Thanks again.
