There is a HUGE myth going around that you don’t need to use terminal. While on the surface this is true, as soon as you start using your Linux install, you will realize that you absolutely can NOT live without terminal for daily usage. .

  1. 100% agreed! I try to say it everywhere but these Linux guys suck. They just throw hate to somebody who speaks the truth. Why can't they get that they're lying and they need to improve these thing? Whyyy? It's very important to find tha lackings and improve it, instead of saying "It's the user who is doing it wrong". Man!

  2. Troubleshooting Mac apps is the same as Linux. Both unix based. Pull up the terminal. I would work solely in the terminal for development when I was still using apple products. So glad I switched to Linux. No more leaving me outdated on the computer I spent thousands on and you no longer support.

  3. Honestly, I prefer the console work so much that I even installed guake to have the terminal always ready for me just by hitting a hotkey.

It's like having my own backdoor into my own system.

  4. I don't use terminal and it 's FINE.. I'm still 1000% ahead of WINDOWS— I dual booted ONCE— I booted Linux UP on my machine- and booted Windows OUT the damn window.. havne't looked back.. but I do not use terminal– very very rarely anyway…

  5. terminal is indeed needed for some things in Linux, though once I get things setup, I rarely need it. Do I still use it? Absolutely, but there are many things I prefer the GUI for.

  6. It's a sad truth that so far you can't use Linux without having to use the command line for a lot of things an average user needs to do. There may never be a year of the Linux desktop which means a year when the average user doesn't have to use the command line. With Red Hat being bought out by IBM, most if not all efforts to make that happen are gone, because since then they have been focusing mainly on cloud bullshit. I think this is the reason why Micro$oft changed their mind and decided that Windows 10 wouldn't be the last version of Windows. They were expecting that Linux would catch up on macOS but IBM buying out Red Hat changed that. It's a sad truth because the average user needs an OS without telemetry and backdoors. There is some hope though, maybe the Steamdeck will be sucessful and Valve will put in the resources to finish Red Hat's work.

  7. Another thing is app support. Linux is fragmented and as you said each of us have to pick our poison, package managers, DEs, different library versions at the same time, it is a nightmare for developers not having a platform with universal standards, and that is a consequence of FOSS, too many cooks spoil the soup. Linux needs a north, a vision of what it intends to be for the average user and consumer.

  8. There are mobile, embedded devices, e-readers, and so-on that use some form of a Linux kernel where you’re not required to use a terminal

  9. your right and wrong its because of people like you that make seem linux for only advanced users! the terminal is a faster way to download or to do something faster then using the GUI ur a really bad youtuber !

  10. While I'm a pro Terminal kinda guy, I think saying that Linux CLI is way better than Mac is a bit of a stretch. Running a well configured iTerm2 along with zsh/oh-my-zsh as well as a package manger like Homebrew is a pretty damn sweet power user setup. on macOS.

  11. Thank you for your honesty. In 2025 Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on my Asus Notebook (Skylake i7, Nvidia 1070, 16 GB RAM). Then I will probably try Linux again. I was able to brick Cinnamon Manjaro in VM in mere days (I did not know that I have to run a command in terminal after changing mirrors for downloading packages). I had to use terminal several times before that. Instalation was still a bit confusing. I had to google "file system" because I didnt know the difference between ext4, fat32, btrfs and xfs. There are just so many issues as of now. Problematic RGB support, no real HDR, no GOG galaxy and many more smaller bugs and bigger problems along the way. Terminal is… MS-DOS. I dont miss that one. I do understand, that it is a powerful tool. I still always want a clear path around it with the help of GUI. Even if it is a longer one. I just dont want to use Terminal at all. Similarly… Some of the best Distros around have that fear of proprietary software and they dont have them in their main repos and so they dont test them enough. There is nothing wrong with proprietary software. There is nothing wrong with wanting to use the OS just through GUI. In 2025 Mint, Manjaro, Fedora, Pop!_OS, OpenSuse or any other distro might be "friendly enough" for me to use. But I seriously doubt that. A typical Linux user wants really something different from his OS than me. So our paths will probably never cross. Kudos though to the creators of some of the desktop environments. Cinnamon and GNOME are both beautiful in their own ways (way nicer than any windows UI). KDE is a very powerful DE. Though I think, that it needs to be polished. Settings are all over the place and its look is more kitschy than really aesthetical.

  12. I disagree. You don't need to use the terminal to use Linux. I do know of a person who uses Linux, and doesn't even know how to use the terminal, and she is the only one on her computer. She even set it up herself. I even asked her because of YouTubers like yourself saying the terminal is needed to use Linux, and she said she never uses it. I think this mindset comes from people who do use the terminal, and think it is necessary. I've had more problems with Windows updates than Linux. I do use the terminal to update, BUT only by remote with SSH. My personal computers, yes there is more than two, I use the GUI to update, and can't recall of ever having a problem updating on these computers with the GUI. If you are having these problems, then maybe you should use a different distro or quit monkeying with the system.

  13. I thought he purposely pixilated his terminal for this video until I realized it was a picture of a tree.

About the "need to use terminal in linux" I think is the wrong question. The question should be asked for what purpose and what use. I have my mother and grandmother use Linux and only Linux for the past 10 years and both of them never need to use terminal and the system is properly being updated with gui updater. In their case the only time I used terminal is when I initially set up the computer. However if you have a use case where you do a lot of things and constantly need to install/remove programs or change system in some way, then you will need to use the terminal

  14. It is not only for linux but also for other oses. Every os needs command line bruh. Chris titus tech you are just a technical user not a guy who really has that much knowledge about computers.
