ive had this 2000 Terramite T5C Compact Tractor Loader Backhoe for about 19 years, and has served me well until today, the engine has let the parts inside go where they want, and that’s not good, let’s scrounge around some junk engines and see if we can fix it up.

  1. Kohler's are common for bent pushrods that can gall into crankcase due to valve deposits saw a lot of these where I used to work got with Kohler engineer's they had us use non ethanol fuel that helped but in the end did away with all of them had a lot of failures haven't looked at Kohler the same since then

  2. there are plenty of videos here on you tube you could watch to get an idea of what you are trying to do here you seem to have the tools just need some direction. /

  3. The engine bend push rods has been overheated and the valve guides got tight in valve stems and slide the guides out. That creates a clearance issue. Valves aren’t closing now creating the no compression problem. Choices are to replace the head, or press guides back in. They may or may not hold. They should if the motor is kept cool. I would venture to guess the fins are clogged full of oil and debris.

  4. I have the same T5C Terramite with the same Kohler 20hp engine. The Kohler has done its job well for 15+ years but need to be replaced. I will use your steps in your video to make my machine awesome again! Thank you!

  5. That looks like a cub cadet drive shaft laying there on pallet.
That's what in mower have here 20hp Kohler command. Locked up.
Try get it going for pops this spring.
Lol best one is on the backhoe and its toast. Priceless.

  6. Wouldn't be a Mustie video without the signature antics at the end! 😆😆😆
    .
    And no, I didn't think you'd flip it! I know better! 😃😃😃

  7. One comment on a lot of your videos is, why not use anti-seize on large couplings such as for the Terri-mite! I use it on every bolt that I find hard to remove in the first place. I love your videos and the way that you talk as though we are right along side of you!

  8. What are you can do when you’re doing that is too have the valve cover off and crank the engine over with a spark plug in it after putting some sort of liquid inside the cylinder and look down between where the pushrods go and you should be able to see the liquid running through into the pushrod valley that will tell you that the head gasket is the problem

  9. One thing I’ve learned with Kohler engines when they start smoking it’s typically a head gasket because they are made from a Teflon material and then we usually blow between the pushrod valley and the Piston

  10. That landscaper needs to reform his maintenance program badly….. no oil in his motors.. no wonder he has failures. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
